Elderly Newlyweds Tie Knot After 80 Years Together (VIDEO)

If you've been with your significant other for a long time, I mean a looooooong time, and yet still can't seem to put a ring on it, have no fear. Apparently there is no expiration date on true love! An elderly couple from Paraguay have been together for 80 years -- 80 years!!! -- and they are just getting around to tying the knot.

Jose Manuel Riella and Martina Lopez, who first met in 1933, had a civil ceremony decades ago but had never gotten around to having the type of religious ceremony -- including wedding gown and tons of family -- that signifies wedding. Now she is 99 and he is 103 and after THAT amount of time together -- not to mention the 8 children, 50 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 20 great-great-grandchildren -- you'd think they'd just be like, "Wedding? Nah. We're good."

But nope. They finally decided to tie the knot. Now I hope this doesn't turn into one of those scenarios where a couple is happily unmarried for years and years and then they make it official and suddenly they can't stand each other and get divorced! That would be bizarre, wouldn't it? Like putting up with someone for 80 years and getting married and then suddenly realizing you can't stand the way the other person laughs or leaves his socks lying around?

There have been celebrity couples who have been happily unmarried for a long time, such as Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell (30 years); Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie (eight years -- unless those sneaky muffins managed to tie the knot on the down-low); Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt (16 years); and Oprah and Stedman (27 years), but no one even comes close to this pair!

I think it goes to show you that a commitment is a commitment, whether you've got a wedding ring or not.

Have you been in a long-term happily unmarried relationship? Do you think getting married in the eyes of God makes the marriage?
