Bethenny Frankel Surprised at How 'Brutal' & 'Excruciating' Her Divorce Has Been (VIDEO)

Real Housewives alum Bethenny Frankel sure seems like she has it all together. But don't be fooled. This divorce has been a lot harder on her thank you'd think. When she co-hosted Good Day New York Bethenny revealed how hard her divorce with Jason Hoppy has been for her. "Divorce is the most difficult thing you could ever go through in your entire life," said the entrepreneur. "I never heard how excruciating it is." Wow... excruciating!

Bethenny's divorce certainly has seemed to turn a dark corner the past few months. What started out as a relatively amicable split has gotten downright hostile. Bethenny wouldn't directly address whether she'd call it "bitter." But she did say "It's just a brutal unnatural situation and you sort of end up in a situation you thought you'd never be in."

That bad, huh? Divorce can be like that. I have friends who started out saying they'd work with a mediator and try to have an amicable divorce. Sometimes it works. But sometimes you're unpleasantly surprised, and it just gets harder. One couple I know has been hopelessly deadlocked for a couple years now.

I'm sorry to hear Bethenny describe her divorce as "excruciating." It's definitely not like that for everyone -- but you just never know until you go through it! If anything, divorce is NEVER exactly like what you think it's going to be like, and I imagined mine would be much worse, actually. I'm going through a divorce right now, too, and I wouldn't call mine excruciating. But then, my situation couldn't be more different. We have different issues, and we have very different circumstances. For one thing, in my case there's a lot LESS money at stake. Maybe money makes divorce even worse? Maybe being shabby bohemians like us kind of lowers the stakes for divorce.

Anyway, I'm sorry it's been so hard for Bethenny. I'm inspired that she can say all that, and still be able to sit up straight on TV and smile. This divorce process won't last forever. It ends eventually -- for all of us. And then she has the rest of her life. And hopefully, that's when things get better for her. We can only hope.
