Couple Marries 40 Years After Meeting & Proves It's Never Too Late for Love

I live in New York City, a town notorious for "older" women finding it difficult to find men. As they hit they hit their mid-30s and 40s, the despair begins to settle in. When, when will I find The One? Well, perhaps these ladies need to stop searching in their present and look into their past. Deep, deep into their past.

This is what 47-year-old New York single mother Laura Melon did when she reconnected with childhood crush Larry Wasser. Almost 40 years after the two met as a 10-year-old tomboy and a 12-year-old freckle-faced "older boy," Laura and Larry met up again as middle-aged love lorn adults and quickly realized they were soulmates. Can I get an Awwww?

Laura and Larry first met as kids when their respective families would summer together on the Jersey shore (long before Snooki and JWoww). Larry was friends with Laura's older brother, Michael. Unlike most older boys, Larry didn't mind 10-year-old Laura tagging along with their crew. He was even secretly crushing on her. But, being 12, he says he "did not know what to do about it." Probably a good thing, considering.

Fast forward 37 years, and Laura is living in New York while Larry had settled in Louisville, Kentucky. It's highly doubtful these two would have connected on given their geographic differences. But who needs an online dating service when you've got parents?

As it turns out, both Laura's and Larry's respective sets of parents  ended up living in the same Florida retirement community. The foursome renewed their friendship. That's when the push to set up Laura and Larry began. Right away. Says Laura:

My mother called me that night with his phone number and told me to call him that very minute.

Sheesh, no pressure! Like most daughters, Laura ignored her mom's dating advice. But soon Larry got ahold of Laura's number and made the call himself. They immediately began dating (and making out like teens on the beach). Less than two years later, they are married. And sickeningly ecstatic about it.

Oddly, Laura's first husband's name was Larry too, and she's had other boyfriends named Larry. She figures this was some kind of cosmic sign that she would end up with Larry, The Original. Swoons Laura:

I think I have had Larry -- this Larry -- on my brain for my whole life.

Aw, this is so inspiring. I think there's something to be said for reconnecting with someone from your past that you used to have strong feelings for. It's a nice way of meeting someone "new" but already having a history and shared memories. Then there's the added benefit of always being seen as "young" by your partner. As Larry says about Laura: "She is still that cute-as-a-button tomboy in my eyes."

This story just shows you, when it comes to love, it's never too late. Singles, if you're having trouble finding your soulmate, try breaking out those dusty yearbooks and old summer photo albums. Perhaps your Larry or Laura is waiting.

Have you ever reconnected with a long lost love?
