Katie Holmes & Tom Cruise's Prenup: Do Details Prove They Were Actually in Love? (VIDEO)

tom cruise katie holmesIt seems like every minute, another batch of details about Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' divorce are hitting the web, and the latest are some specifics on how much moolah Katie will be walking away with when all is said and done, according to the couple's prenup. TMZ is yelping that Katie is getting "peanuts" from the the prenup -- in other words, barely more money than what she brought in -- but that's fine by her. What's more, a source close to the couple is telling the gossip site that "the prenup ... is proof the marriage is not a sham -- she didn't tie the knot for the loot."

"Golddigger" definitely is not the first word that comes to mind when considering the former Joey Potter's weird marriage to Hollywood's "Top Gun." But does this supposed "peanuts" prenup prove that she was in love with Tom? Or that he was in love with her? That he isn't a supremely closeted man who contracted Katie to be his third beard?

I don't think so.

Maybe she figured they could make it work despite his -- err, to put it diplomatically -- eccentricities, because she was in love with the idea of him. (She did admit she had a childhood crush on the guy!) Even more so, she may have loved the idea of being Mrs. Tom Cruise (if only for five years) and what that could offer her, not in terms of money, but reputation, career, cache, etc. And I wouldn't blame her for being blinded by either form of love, which can be extremely powerful and misleading. Just look at a recent, primo example of a woman falling for the idea of a marriage -- Kim Kardashian!

Ultimately, though, all you have to do is look at the copious photos of Katie's forced smiles, her soul-less eyes, misery written all over her face to see that the woman's heart wasn't in it. Most of us have guessed for the past several years -- maybe even since the beginning and Couchgate -- that the marriage was more about a phony-baloney business deal than true love. Just because Katie may be walking away from the marriage mostly empty-handed doesn't mean that guess is 100 percent wrong.

Do you think these two tied the knot for love, money, or something else completely?
