Adele's 'Embarrassing' Love Mistake Could Happen to the Best of Us

adele 19Although Adele hasn't exactly been 100 percent private about her love life, there's only so much we can deduce from her tearjerking tracks about the men who've broken her heart. So now, an unauthorized biography by Marc Shapiro -- oh-so-creatively entitled Adele: The Biography -- is due out next month and attempting to fill in the blanks for the gossip-hungry masses.

The Daily Mail has published a supposed excerpt from the book, which reportedly details the inspiration behind Adele's debut album 19. Apparently, the singer was devastated when her first love turned out to be a bisexual man -- who ended up running away with her close gay friend! Gasp!

The biography excerpt reads:

One thing we know ... is that it was a first love gone terribly bad. Adele had professed her love and he did the same, she had known he was bisexual but, in the rush of romance, felt they could make it work. Four hours after laying their emotional cards on the table, the boy ran off with one of Adele's gay friends!

Oh geeeeeze. Okay, I don't mean to belittle this, because I'm sure it was a heart-wrenching situation for Adele at the time. But it's not exactly as scandalous as it seems the author would have us believe. Come on -- how many women have been in her shoes?! (It's even been a plotline on popular primetime shows -- just look at Glee's Mercedes and Kurt or Joey and Jack on Dawson's Creek.)

I confess: I've personally been there likely more times than most. I couldn't avoid falling for bi and gay guys in high school and early on in college, because I spent all my free time involved with artistic extracurricular activities like theater and speech team! (Like it or not, in that crowd, straight guys were few and far between!) And while I've been teased for my track record, there's no shame. I fell for amazing guys ... who turned out to love guys. Whoops! So what? It happens to the best of us!

This supposed "scandal" is definitely not something Adele should be embarrassed about or that the press should be jumping on to giggle about. Especially because we all know the upshot: She took that heartbreak and turned it into millions! From one "fruit fly" to the other, all I can say to that is "You go, girl!"

Have you ever fallen for a bi or gay guy?
