'Honey Sex' Sounds Sweet, But Don't Be Fooled

honeyAnyone looking to take their sex life to the next level by purchasing a libido booster, be forewarned: A product known as "Honey Sex" -- reportedly found in pharmacies and natural food stores -- is getting scary press. Israel's Pharmaceutical Crime Unit recently sent the item off to scientists for testing, and they found it actually contains sildenafil, aka the active ingredient in the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra. Eek! And that means it could have some scary side effects ...

But yeah, still super sketch city! Not surprising though. There are a bazillion products on the market meant to play on our deepest fears that we might not be horny enough or last long enough or orgasming strongly enough. The list goes on and on. So silly! And products like Honey Sex that are clearly riding a dangerous line are also galling, because they make it seem like all natural libido boosters are crap, when that is simply not the case.

Here, four truly natural libido boosters that should be relatively safe ...

  1. Maca - The Peruvian herb used to boost libido is used in a different supplement at health food stores, so you're sure to find it in a sketchy one on occasion. But in its purest form, it's known to increase strength, energy, stamina, libido, and sexual function -- aka, it's like nature's answer to Viagra, for both men and women. You can even get it in tea form!
  2. Oysters - It's no myth. Experts agree that thanks to their antioxidants and trace elements, oysters boost dopamine levels to boost libido and also bolster sexual function.
  3. Watermelon - At the Fruit and Vegetable Improvement Center at Texas A&M University, researchers found that eating watermelon delivers Viagra-like effects on blood vessels throughout the body and may up sex drive. Yum.
  4. Spicy foods - Capsaicin, which give chiles their heat, promotes the release of chemicals that can raise your heart rate and trigger the release of endorphins that give you a natural high.

Is there anything natural you've found to boost libido?
