Jesse James' Dad Needs to Get Over Sandra Bullock

jesse james sandra bullockTo most of us, the Sandra Bullock-Jesse James scandal seems even further behind us now than the Jennifer Aniston-Brad Pitt-Angie Jolie love triangle! But that's not the case for one person close to the situation: Jesse's estranged father, Larry. In fact, it seems like he's the only one who isn't truly over their divorce. Reportedly, he recently wrote a letter to Sandra, pouring his heart out about how devastated he was to lose her as a daughter-in-law.

A close friend exclusively told Star, "He wanted her to know how very sorry he was that he never got to meet her or introduce her to his family ... He was heartbroken over their breakup, so he opened up his heart to her." He also expressed how sad he was that he never got to know his grandson, Sandra's adopted son, Louis. Sweet, I guess, but I'm not surprised the letter ended up returned to sender. Supposedly, Sandra never picked it up at the P.O. box Larry sent it to in New Orleans.

And you know ... maybe that's just as it should be.

It's not uncommon for in-laws to be majorly invested in their kids' relationships. I'm not even married to my boyfriend yet, and I have a really tight relationship with his parents. They treat me like their actual daughter. If for some crazy reason our relationship were to go the way of Jesse and Sandra's, I'm sure they'd be devastated, too. That definitely makes my heart ache a bit, and of course, a divorce affects not just the couple themselves, but their loved ones, as well.

But ultimately, it's just too bad. In-laws can grieve the end of a marriage, reach out to their former daughter- or son-in-law, and try to maintain some kind of relationship with them. Certainly when there are kids involved and they're established grandparents, they'll still be in the picture. But at the same time, they kind of need to just get over their kids' divorce. It wasn't their relationship to fix or to make up for.

In Jesse James' dad's case, his reaching out to Sandra is definitely questionable. Who knows how genuine he really is, or if he's just looking for 15 minutes of fame? If he really is as heartbroken as he says he is, that's ... unfortunate. But like his estranged son and once daughter-in-law, he really has no choice but to move on.

What do you think about in-laws who try to stay in the picture after a divorce or to put the pieces of their kids' marriage back together?
