Gwyneth Paltrow's Husband Says She Is His First, Only Love

gwyneth paltrowWe may not all love her GOOP-y ways, but Gwyneth Paltrow's husband, Chris Martin, you know, the lead singer of Coldplay, seems to worship his actress wife. He's usually pretty tight-lipped about their relationship, but on CBS Sunday Morning yesterday, he opened up a bit, addressing some pretty personal questions. Such as one about whether or not it's true that he has only ever had one serious relationship. He admitted that yes, perhaps it's "weird," but it's true -- Gwyneth is the only serious partner he's ever had. Reeeally!

He seems to have a cute sense of humor about it, saying, "It is a big leap. What, from being a loser to going out with an Oscar winner? It's a giant leap. Let's face it, it's like winning the lottery. I was happy to make it." Although he admits that it seems a little bizarro that he was never really with anyone before his now wife, I think it's sweet.

It's funny ... society tends to brand people who have never been in serious relationships, even by the time they're in their mid-20s or definitely before they say "I do," as oddballs. Something must be wrong with them. But that's so silly. I guess I can relate here. When I met my boyfriend, I was 23, and although I had dated a LOT, my longest relationship was probably somewhere in the ballpark of four months. My boyfriend had pretty much been in the same boat up until we met, and he was almost 26 then. In the scheme of things, we were both still really young. Knowing we're going to be one another's one and only serious, long-term relationship is a big deal. But we aren't bizarro for that.

In fact, I'd venture to guess that guys who haven't really been in a relationship tend to be the quieter guys. The ones who have just been waiting, sort of, for the right girl who they feel comfortable being themselves around. Maybe they're a little goofy, and maybe they even have an emotional issue or two (ultimately, though, who doesn't?). But if you're the only girl for them, like Gwyn is for Chris, they'll end up treating you like a total princess. And what woman wouldn't prefer that over a guy who's a total player an old hat at having girlfriends?

Good for Chris for coming out as a self-described "loser." Maybe by opening up, he's setting the record straight: Shy, inexperienced guys can sometimes be the sexiest.

What do you think about people who have only ever been in one serious relationship -- bizarre or sweet?
