The Only Plus Side of Breaking Up

Breaking up is awful and sad and difficult and painful. But Elisabetta Canalis, the beautiful Italian model whom George Clooney refused to marry, has somehow managed to lose weight throughout her breakup (though she didn't need it). This seems like a pretty large upside to the whole thing.

Personally, when I broke up with someone, I had the opposite problem. I started funneling ice cream and chocolate like nobody's business and then would have to lose a few by the time I started dating the new dude.

But to each their own. It makes a lot of sense, too. When you are getting dumped, eating isn't really high on the priority list.

She, of course, had no weight to lose, so that part is a bit disconcerting. But, in general, more power to the woman who can curb her appetite in the midst of emotional turmoil.

I like to channel my bad emotions into ice cream, brownies, hot fudge, and Twinkies, so if Canalis would rather eat broccoli, bully for her.

The fact is, breakups are hard, emotionally gutting events. It's possible that in the real thick of it, you might lose weight because you feel nauseous or just can't eat. But by the time the first few weeks have passed, you might have your appetite, but not your boyfriend back.

I wouldn't be all that terribly surprised if Canalis starts to gain some weight back now that DWTS has ended for her. Clooney has moved on with Stacy Keibler. And once Canalis herself finds that happiness, there will be much food to consume happily.

There is gelato in the Italian model's future!

Do you lose weight after a breakup?
