Eva Longoria's Divorce Advice Is Solid & Sweet

eva longoriaEva Longoria is the first to admit that divorce becomes her. After splitting from her NBA husband Tony Parker in November 2010, Eva definitely went through some dark times, but she's emerged better looking and younger. Well, she thinks she looks younger anyway. The Desperate Housewives star was on Ellen this week and talked about why she's happier than ever now, and what she's learned from the process.

I would think that rebounding with the perfect male specimen that is Eduardo Cruz would be the reason for her effervescent glow, but Eva disagrees. It goes deeper than that, y'all, way deeper.

Eva extols the virtue of being your own person in a relationship:

Being a woman, I realized you cannot identify yourself through a man or through your marriage. I think it's our nature to be socially constructed that way. To just be inferior or subservient and you don’t have to be. You can be yourself and really hold your own by yourself no matter what partnership you're in.

It's great advice, but it just seems weird to me that Eva, a gorgeous woman with her own fame and fortune, would ever feel inferior to a man. Just goes to show us that it's not about how you look, what your job is, or how much money you have -- if you don't know yourself, your relationship will suffer.

I've always found the concept of "knowing yourself" kind of hard to grasp (maybe that's an indication that I don't know who I am, but we'll save that kind of introspection for a night of binge drinking and self-loathing). But perhaps after a divorce, you're able to see things a little more clearly ... once you're out of the clouds, that is.

And Eva's certainly out of those cloudy patches, that's for sure. She explained that she doesn't talk to her ex Tony, which, in my opinion, has probably helped her move on, and isn't looking to rush down the aisle with boyfriend Eduardo any time soon. Divorce really does become her, no?

What do you think?
