Bride Resorts to Heinous Crime to Pay for Wedding

lavish weddingIf you can't afford the expensive wedding of your dreams, you have a few options. You could get hitched in Vegas, or your backyard ... or you could steal $273,000 from your boss to foot the bill. It's what a British woman did. Here's how it went down: Woman steals money from her boss to throw lavish wedding. Woman invites said boss to lavish wedding. Said boss is all ... “Hey, are those fireworks?! And is that a  harpist?!? Wait a second ... ”

I mean, that's what would have gone through my head if an employee of mine told me she was destitute, then threw a wedding fit for a Kardashian.

Kristy Lane, 29, of Lancashire, Britain, is the bride and mastermind behind all this. She was working for Peter Sutton in his audio-visual business and decided to rip him off, big time. She stole $273,000 big ones from the poor guy, even after he had given her a pay raise and an upfront loan to help the "poor" woman pay for her wedding.

Lane was arrested for 122 counts of fraud -- for two years she had be issuing invoices to suppliers and putting the money into her own bank account.

Her boss explained:

It was like she was rubbing our faces in it. It was the wedding that first started to raise alarm bells. Up to that point we had no idea, because she was always claiming she was hard-up, and didn’t do anything that would tip us off. Then I turned up at the wedding and it was the most lavish thing I’ve ever seen. I trusted her implicitly and this was how she repaid us.

I'm no steal-money-from-you-boss-then-throw-a-wedding expert, but maybe Lane should've left out the firework display, the harpist, saxophone player, magician, DJ and two bands ... the free bar, face painting, and feathered masks for her guests.

Love can make people do crazy things and the pressure of throwing a wedding can make people do really crazy things, but this is just sad. The poor boss was almost run out of business. I'm glad he caught on to her scheme (was it the face painting booth?) and that he's going to get justice.

Moral of the story: If you're going to steal over a quarter of a million bucks from your boss to pay for a lavish wedding, don't invite him to your big day.
