Wonder if Kat Von D Is Regretting Her Tattoo of Jesse James Now?

kat von d tattoo of jesse jamesKat Von D and Jesse James officially called it quits yesterday. It sounds like these two are probably pretty glum right now, but there's a little bit more to the story that is probably making the split even more painful for Kat. As you'll see in the season opener of L.A. Ink, she recently got a tattoo of Jesse. Whoooops!

Man, breakups are tough enough, without the added stress of having had the guy's FACE TATTOOED ON YOUR BODY. Drrrr. One tiny bit of silver lining: It wasn't Jesse's current 42-year-old face, but a rather innocent, cute mug from fifth grade. But, still. Eeesh. If anyone's seen and heard post-breakup tattoo horror stories, it's got to be someone like Kat, who is a tattoo artist herself. But I guess that didn't stop her from getting her now ex-fiance's face permanently inked on her side. What was she thinking??

I guess she was thinking, "We're getting married. We're going to be together forever, so sure, I'll get a tattoo in his honor!" OR she was thinking of loving him in that moment ... and she's the kind of gal who lives in the moment.

In fact, I'm sure there are people who really don't even mind carrying around a tattoo of an ex for the rest of their lives, because maybe they see it as just a part of their personal history ... like a scar. They embrace their past, even as they move onto their future. To anyone who is zen enough to see it that way ... KUDOS! But I personally don't think I could live with a permanent reminder of an ex-fiance on my body. (Then again, I can't even commit to a single piece of jewelry to wear every day, and I'm a good Jewish girl, so ink never was and will never be in my future.)

But for someone who does regret a tattoo of an ex, there are a few options. You can have it lasered off, of course. Or ask the tattoo artist go over it and create another image in its place or around it. Or you can just "re-purpose" the image. Say you got a "M" for your ex-bf Murray. You just say it's because you embrace your "mercurial" energy, or you're honoring your zodiac sign (if you're lucky enough to be a Virgo or a Scorpio, that is).

But one thing's for sure: If you're getting ink of any kind -- especially if it has something to do with someone in your life -- you're probably going to want to consider how you'd feel if circumstances changed. Ink is not to be taken lightly. It's a major commitment -- obviously one that will long outlive a celebrity romance (especially one involving Jesse James).

What do you think about getting a tattoo of your boyfriend/hubby? Have you done it or would you?
