Robert Pattinson Is SO Naive When It Comes to Love

Robert PattinsonIs it any surprise that Robert Pattinson believes in love at first sight? In the first Twilight movie, Pattinson's character Edward Cullen has an immediate connection with Bella Swan, played by real-life girlfriend Kristen Stewart. And in his upcoming movie Water for Elephants, his character also has this type of fast attraction when he first meets Reese Witherspoon’s character Marlena.

As Pattinson said in a recent interview with MTV:

I think pretty much all people who love each other had some kind of thing at first sight. I mean, there has to be some kind of moment where you, like, feel a different energy around someone.

My feeling? That the idea of love at first sight belongs in a storybook, with the Tooth Fairy, high up on a shelf.

But according to a study published by Adam & Eve, the sex toy company, Pattinson is not alone in his belief. Over half of the people polled believed in that first sight love spark. Why? Because the majority of the believers said that they had experienced it for themselves.

I’d like to believe in love at first sight. It’s so romantic and optimistic. But I don't. No. But I do believe in lust at first sight. I remember the first time I met each of my long ago boyfriends. (There haven't been that many.) And sure, each time, there was an immediate attraction. That's why I went out with them. Duh. But over time, those butterflies in my stomach and my desire to jump their bones faded. Because lust doesn't last unless it turns into -- wait for it -- LOVE.

I don’t think I’m a pessimist. After all, even after a failed marriage, I still believe in love. Just ask my husband. Our first meeting wasn't a heart-shaped lightning bolt moment. Sure I thought he was cute but I didn't fall head over heels for him until I got to know him better. It was more like love at 20th sight. And 7 years later, when he kisses me, I mean really kisses me, I still feel it way down deep in the bottom of my toes. Love and lust, the perfect combination.

Do you believe in love at first sight?
