Priscilla Chan is probably the luckiest woman in the United States even though "luck" probably has very little to do with it. Admit it, you are just the teensiest bit envious of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg's girlfriend. It's OK to say it. We all are a little.
Although, maybe not today as much. Chan's boyfriend -- the modern, somewhat anti-social version of Prince Charming -- has a stalker and that stalker is threatening Chan, too. Zuckerberg took out a restraining order against 31-year-old Pradeep Manukonda claiming that he tried to:
Follow, surveil, and contact Mr. Zuckerberg using language threatening his personal safety ... and the safety of his girlfriend and his sister, according to TMZ.
Apparently Pradeep visited many Facebook offices in California trying to get money for his family. Facebook security also intercepted Pradeep at Mark's home on January 24 just as he was about to walk up the front steps.
Through Facebook Pradeep told Zuckerberg:
Please help me, then I am ready to die for you. Please understand my pain.
Yikes. Zuckerberg has made it clear that he fears this stalker, and the judge has ordered Pradeep to stay at least 300 yards away from Mark, his sister Randi, and his girlfriend pending a hearing later this month.
So, it seems Cinderella left out that whole part where Prince Charming was stalked by a cash-strapped freak. If they had included it, would we still have been envious?
It appears that hooking up with a multibillionaire who is currently at the top of his game and may soon own the world has its drawbacks and, sadly, that makes me feel a little better.
In all seriousness, obviously, the most important thing is that Chan is safe. She doesn't strike me as a gold digger as she is a medical student and attended Harvard in her own right. But when I get to thinking, Wouldn't it be nice if I never had to think about money again ... it's (sort of) vindicating to know that even with that, of course, everyone has their own issues.
Because of him, she is in the public eye. She is a household name and now she is in danger, too. That is something to think about. Back when Carolyn Bessette was dating John F. Kennedy, Jr., she struggled with the paparazzi and thought about ending it over their constant hounding. It's pretty sad when a relationship ends not because of who the people are, but because of what they do. Should Chan dump Zuckerberg over the stalker? No way. Not if she loves him.
It's fine print in the book of fairy tales, Chan. It's a bummer, but there are bonuses, too. About a billion of them.
Do you think she should dump him?
