Courteney Cox & David Arquette: Can Rehab Save Their Marriage?

David ArquetteDo you think a trip to rehab can save the marriage of Courteney Cox and David Arquette? Arquette entered an undisclosed rehab facility on New Year's Day, right after the biggest party night of the year, for treatment of depression and alcohol abuse. And how does Cox feel about this? She's being quoted as saying, "I love and support him."

Makes sense. The two separated a few months ago after 11 years of marriage. They have a 6-year-old daughter together. Cox doesn’t want their kid growing up with a depressed drunk for a father. But should Arquette take this support from Cox as a sign that they might reconcile? Doubt it.

There have been many celebrity couples recently who have had a spouse go to rehab shortly before, or after, an implosion of their marriages. And how many came out of it still together?

  • Jesse James entered a rehab facility after his wife at the time, Sandra Bullock, found out about his infidelities. He left shortly after finding out that Bullock was planning on divorcing him no matter what, regardless of how much time he spent in rehab. Their divorce was finalized about three months later.
  • Tiger Woods' story is similar. He cheated on wife Elin Nordegren with multiple mistresses. He entered rehab, after Elin found out, to deal with his sex addiction. Tiger spent an extended period of time there but ultimately, it wasn't enough to save his marriage. His divorce has also been finalized.
  • And then of course, there’s Charlie Sheen, the King of Rehab. I'm not sure how many times he's been to rehab, but he's had three failed marriages. Something's not working for him, whether it's an addiction to drugs and alcohol or an inability to be in a healthy relationship. His divorce from wife number three, Brooke Mueller, is currently in the California court system. Mueller spent time in 2010 battling her own substance abuse issues.

Rehab may not be the magic marriage miracle worker after all ...

But wait! There's Keith Urban. Keith entered rehab four months after his marriage to Nicole Kidman. It was his third time in eight years. Kidman staged an intervention for Urban and he went to rehab, for help with substance abuse, immediately after.

That's pretty intense for a couple of newlyweds. Four years and one kid later, Urban and Kidman seem to be doing just fine. Maybe there's hope for the rest of them?

Do you think there's hope for David Arquette and Courteney Cox's marriage?
