Double Agent Foils Panty Bomber Terrorist Plot

Posted by Jenny Erikson

spyIn what sounds like the plot for the latest summer blockbuster, a terrorist attack was thwarted by a double agent, who alerted the CIA to al Qaeda’s shenanigans. Actually, I’m pretty sure I saw that episode of 24. Jack Bauer eats terrorists for breakfast.

This isn’t a movie or television set though – this is real life and it’s downright scary. Saudi Arabia intelligence was able to infiltrate al Qaeda in Yemen, where an agent posing as a wannabe suicide bomber gained access to a newer, slimmed-down version of the underwear bomb worn by Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab on Christmas day in 2009.

5 Funny Quotes From the Bin Laden Documents -- Who Knew!? (VIDEO)

bin writinWell it's been a year since that fateful day when U.S. Navy SEALs killed Osama bin Laden, and U.S. officials are now finally releasing a few of the thousands of documents collected at bin Laden's compound. What they're revealing is a leader who was losing control of his crew. Sure he was plotting to assassinate President Obama. But he was also plotting -- an al-Qaida rebranding?!?

Look, I take terrorism very seriously (hello, I was in downtown NYC on 9/11). But some of these bin Laden quotes are actually unintentionally hilarious.

Outrageous TSA Pat-Down of Girl With Cerebral Palsy Goes Too Far (VIDEO)

airplaneThe TSA is at it again. A 7-year-old with cerebral palsy is the latest child to be treated like a terrorist when all she wanted to do was get on an airplane with her family. And the way Dina Frank's dad tells it, the very rules the agency put into place last year to make parents feel better are still being ignored.

Remember that major announcement last year? The TSA told us they were going to give our kids a break on the invasive screenings and actually ... wait for it ... talk to us, the parents! Maybe that would work; if they actually listened to what parents like Dr. Joshua Frank have to say.

Susan Sarandon Says Government Tapped Her Phone -- What a Waste of Tax Dollars!

Posted by Maressa Brown
on Apr 23, 2012 at 5:10 PM

susan sarandonSusan Sarandon isn't one of those celebs who likes to lead a quiet life off-screen. Oh hell no. She has been a vocal activist for many liberal causes for years, standing up against the 2003 invasion of Iraq and even speaking at the site of Occupy Wall Street in NYC last fall. And being that she is a Hollywood A-lister, it's no surprise that she might be on some top secret government list of troublemakers.

At the Tribeca Film Festival, she addressed the topic, stating that she knows her phone was tapped. Plus, she claimed, "I was denied security clearance to go to the White House [next week], and I don't know why." Bizarre, huh? But not so bizarre to Fahrenheit 9/11 documentarian Michael Moore, who was being interviewed by Sarandon at the time. He said he doesn't really like to think about it, but he's pretty darn sure "everything I'm saying in an email or saying on the telephone is being looked at." Awesome.

New Columbine Documentary Shows Former Students Are Still Suffering (VIDEO)

Columbine survivorThirteen years after the grisly student massacre at Columbine High School, the men and women who were there on the day of the deadly spree are still suffering. A new documentary being made by a former student sheds light on the raw emotional trauma the witnesses still grapple with.

Former Columbine student Sam Granillo, now a 30-year-old filmmaker, found himself cornered in a room that day as two disturbed students, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, went on a shooting rampage, killing 13 people. Granillo managed to survive by sticking his foot in the door of the room to keep it barred shut. To this day, he suffers panic attacks and depression. And so do many of the other former students.

I Want My Kids to Live in a Country Where They Can Shoot for the Moon

Moms Matter 2012

full moonThe most important election issue this cycle with regard to my children is the economy. While working on the Clinton campaign in 1992, political consultant James Carville famously said, “It’s the economy, stupid!” Twenty years later, I have to agree with the man.

Unemployment is still uncharacteristically high, no matter what the expert economists want to say about the decrease in unemployment numbers. It’s easy to say that the unemployment is going down when people stop looking for work altogether. The dirty little secret is that the unemployment rate only includes those people actively looking for work, not the hundreds of thousands of individuals that have given up altogether.

TSA Treats 3-Year-Old in Wheelchair Like Terrorist -- Complete With Hand Swabbing for Explosives! (VIDEO)

TSA Kid in wheelchairMan oh man, will the TSA ever learn? One of their agents was caught on video at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport over the weekend busting a major terrorist. Oh wait, no they weren't. It was a 3-year-old boy in a wheelchair. The TSA was just treating him like a hardened criminal.

To be honest, when I first watched the video of Matt Dubiel's little boy getting the terrorist treatment, I wanted to give the TSA the benefit of the doubt. The agent seemed respectful, and you just never know what some creep could have stuck in the back of that wheelchair. But then things got nuts.

Alleged Suicide Bomber's Arrest Near Capitol Is Totally Freaky

Posted by Maressa Brown
on Feb 17, 2012 at 4:04 PM

u.s. capitolIt's unnerving to think that while we're all going about our regular, day-to-day business, there are terrorists plotting suicide attacks on U.S. soil. It's just not something we think about as an everyday threat, but today, we're reminded that it could very well be our reality. News recently broke that the FBI and the U.S. Capitol Police have arrested a 29-year-old Moroccan man named Amine el-Khalifi today in downtown D.C. after a lengthy investigation into an alleged plot to carry out a suicide attack on the Capitol.

Apparently FBI agents posed as al-Qaeda associates and provided el-Khalifi with an inoperable gun and a fake suicide vest. The man had these items on him when he was taken into custody today, as he was on his way to the Capitol for what he thought would be the suicide attack.

Geeze, the intense lead-up to this arrest sounds like a plot right out of a Bourne movie or another popcorn flick thriller -- which makes it even scarier.

Cutting Back Our Nuke Supply Is a Bad Idea

Posted by Jenny Erikson

nukeOn Wednesday, congressional Republicans pushed back on the rumor that President Obama will cut our nuclear force back by as much as 80 percent. The president has said in the past that his goal is to reduce the number of nuclear warheads we own, and in the process, make the world a safer place.

That’s completely illogical.

Student Finds Bag of Cocaine in Amazon Textbook Order ... Yeah, That's the Ticket

cocaineKids these days! Talk about needing to get your priorities straight. Tell me, what hope is there for the future of our nation when a college kid finds $400 worth of cocaine hidden in the pages of a textbook she ordered on Amazon ... and promptly turns the blow over to the cops?!

Or at least that's Kansas student Sophia Stockton's story, and for some reason, she's sticking to it.

One day she was adding Understanding Terrorism: Challenges, Perspectives, and Issues to her shopping cart, the next she was discovering a mysterious bag of white powder stuffed somewhere between the Table of Contents and the Index.

Sure, why not? Happens all the time, right?
