Lesbian mom Jennifer Tyrrell delivered a petition to Boy Scouts of America (BSA) Wednesday, containing 300,000 electronic signatures in support of the group changing its approach toward the gay community. On Tuesday, BSA reaffirmed its policy of disallowing membership to “open or avowed homosexuals.”

Ms. Tyrrell had been the den leader of the Tiger Cub Den, the Bridgeport, Ohio Cub Scout den that her 7-year-old son Cruz had been a part of, before she was asked to step down due to her sexual orientation. She then organized an electronic petition through Change.org to protest BSA’s decision to not allow gay members or den leaders.

Barack Obama’s reelection campaign recently went after Republican nominee Mitt Romney’s stance on women’s health issues, because the candidate supports an end to federal funding for Planned Parenthood, the nation’s number one abortion provider.

Funny, what liberals call a War on Women; conservatives call a War on Fetuses

Let me say it one more time, because I don’t think it’s getting through: No one is denying any woman over the age of eighteen birth control. Republicans just think you or your fellow should pay for it yourselves. Reminder: You can get contraceptives for as little as $9 at Target or Wal-Mart. If you can’t afford that, you can’t afford to have sex.

Nothing like a good incumbent presidential race in a failing economy to bring out the lies and accusations. “It was Bush’s fault!” Um, yeah, he was president three and a half years ago. Time to own up, Mr. President. The blame game was old in 2010.

Now Barack Obama has a new Republican to vilify -- presidential candidate and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney. Romney will be a bad president because he worked for Bain Capital, and he has (gasp!) money in a Swiss bank. I missed the part where reorganizing companies to keep them afloat and keeping money you’ve earned in a Swiss bank is illegal, or even a bad thing.

As kids, we said it, and as parents, we hear it: “When I grow up I’m going to eat junk food for dinner every night!” Somewhere along the journey from childhood to adulthood, we learned the health and lifestyle benefits of healthy eating. Most of us probably made a brief stop in the land of ramen and cheese doodles in our late teens and early twenties, but eventually we began to regard junk food as something to be indulged in occasionally, not everyday sustenance.

Well, we were supposed to anyway.

New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg thinks his constituents are too fat, that soda is the culprit, and that it’s his job to combat the obesity epidemic by limiting the amount of sugar soda that they may buy.

I like a good glass of wine as much as the next harried mom, but given our thinly spread budget, my go-to wines usually come with a screw top or out of the box. Hey, don’t knock it; boxed wine has come a long way over the years! Or at least that’s how I rationalize it.

On special occasions, we’ll sometimes splurge $40 to $50 for a nice Cabernet or Zinfandel, and yes, the improvement in taste is remarkable. But still, that’s a splurge that isn’t possible in our everyday lives, so with the cheap stuff I will stick. Since it’s not often I get the opportunity to indulge in fancy wine, I’ll ask for advice before I buy. After all, I want to make sure I’m getting the best bang for my buck.

Hunter Rogers was sitting in his high school social studies class when his teacher began talking about Mitt Romney being a bully when he was in high school. Even though that story has been discredited, the teacher wanted to engage the students in a dialogue about it. Hunter asked if Barack Obama had ever bullied anyone (by his own admission, the president once pushed a girl).

The teacher responded that she didn’t know, and somehow ended up on a tirade about how wrong it is to slander the president by asking him the same questions you might ask Mitt Romney. She went so far as to tell Hunter and his classmates that you can be arrested for slandering the president.

Since Obamacare passed into law over two years ago, we’ve been learning all kinds of nasty things about it, like the fact that it defunds Medicare of $500 billion. Sorry Grandma and Grandpa! No coverage for you. Seniors that like their current Medicare plans won’t be able to keep them after all.

Maybe President Obama should’ve read his ”big f****** deal” bill before he signed it, because the law ends Medicare Advantage coverage for many seniors before the election this fall. Oops.

The U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments on Wednesday over the hotly debated S.B. 1070, the immigration law enacted in Arizona in 2010. At the center of the controversy is the provision that would allow state law enforcement to ask for documentation of persons they suspect to be in the country illegally.

It does not mean that cops can arrest little Maria and Juanito on the playground, or follow them home and arrest their mother. This is not about racism. As Ilya Shapiro at the CATO Institute points out:

Nothing is official yet, but at some point everyone’s going to have to admit that former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney has the Republican presidential nomination in the bag. After what seems like the longest primary in the history of ever (please can it be over yet?), GOP voters are looking forward to seeing whom Mitt picks for his running mate.

Let’s look at some of the potentials, shall we?

Since I wrote about the tragic death of Trayvon Martin last week, I’ve gotten some very interesting feedback. I wrote what I wrote because I was bothered by the media coverage condemning George Zimmerman as a murderer before allowing our judicial system to work.

Never once did I say that George Zimmerman was innocent or justified in his actions. Trayvon did not deserve to die, and I’m absolutely sick for his family. I would’ve left well enough alone, but this story had made national news, and the media was misrepresenting the facts of the case to paint Zimmerman as a cold-blooded killer that murdered a little boy because of racism.
