I could swear a blue-ribbon hog just went soaring past my window, because a few minutes ago at the Republican National Convention, Mitt Romney said something I actually agreed with! Granted, somebody else wrote it and put it up on the teleprompter for him to read, but at least he said these words out loud (regarding his wife Ann Romney and the years she spent raising their children):

"I knew that her job as a mom was harder than mine and I knew without question that her job as a mom was more important than mine."

So Romney got one thing right. Thanks for the condescending pat on the forehead, man. Good job, mommies! You work hard! I'm still not fooled. You might be a husband who knows how to give your wife credit when thousands of people are watching, but you have no idea what it's like to be a working mother in America today. And tonight, you gave yourself away.

There are some places where you just don’t expect to see black folks in the mix. (I know, I know, but it’s true.) I don’t tune into the winter Olympics, for example, anticipating a plethora of brown faces and I surely don’t watch rodeos or Riverdance shows willing to place a bet on my certainty of seeing many, if any, of my people. Diversity is making inroads many a place, but there are still largely unchartered areas. The Republican National Convention is another one of them. In the spirit of scant African-American-ness, comedian and author Baratunde Thurston has made fun sport of on-site “#negrospotting” at the RNC and morphed it into a hashtag that has built a groundswell on Twitter. Some people find it offensive, I’m sure, but I think it’s hilarious. Then again, I think Baratunde Thurston, who wrote the handy dandy book How to Be Black, is pretty funny period.

Mitt Romney must be feeling lucky, because it sounds like tonight's "Mystery Speaker" at the Republican National Convention will indeed be Dirty Harry himself. "Sources" say Clint Eastwood is planning to surprise the crowd with a speech before Romney takes the podium, and reactions are predictably mixed: While many members of the GOP are thrilled (I mean, come on! He's Clint Eastwood!), others find Eastwood a touch too liberal (he's pro-gay marriage and his Super Bowl commercial seemed to give Obama credit for saving the auto industry).

Then there are the non-Republicans, like me, who have a tough time believing Clint Eastwood is really one of them. Yeah, I know he's rich and really into guns, but he's still a thinking man with progressive ideals. Don't believe me? Here are 10 Clint Eastwood quotes that prove he's nothing like Mitt Romney or Paul Ryan:

Politicians have always loved talking about The American Dream. How much we deserve it, how much we should fight for it, how much more likely we are to get it if THEY are in office.

Well, this year's Republican National Convention is no different. That phrase has popped up in speech after speech. Well, it used to mean pretty much the same thing to all Americans -- a century ago! Today, interests are so divided and needs are so diverse, it's impossible to find consensus on the subject. So I think politicians should just stop using it until they ask everyday citizens (rich and poor) what it means to them.

If they want a clue, I suggest they start here with this eye-opening CafeMom Studios video. Our RNC correspondent Lindsay Ferrier asked regular woman about hopes and dreams for their families and it's exactly what these politicians need to hear.

Ann Romney became the new ‘it girl’ of the GOP last night with her speech at the Republican National Convention in Tampa. As Mitt’s partner in life, this classy lady has a good chance at being our next First Lady, so all eyes were on her to deliver a speech about what it means to be a wife, mom, grandmother, daughter, sister, and most importantly, an American. The girl did not disappoint.

First off, she looked gorgeous in a red dress and perfectly tousled blonde hair. I’m so glad her stylist avoided the helmet hair look, because that doesn’t look good at all outside of Stepford. But the important thing is what she said, not how she looked, so let’s get down to it.

    Picture this.

It's the morning after Ann Romney's triumphant convention speech and you're set to make your debut as the wife of Mitt Romney's Vice Presidential candidate.

Who can blame Paul Ryan's wife Janna for getting a case of the nerves in front of the media this morning? CafeMom was there to see her debut -- check out our video after the jump, and then tell us in the comments what you think of Janna Ryan.

The Republican Party platform adopted on Monday at the GOP convention includes some very strong wording against abortion: "The unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed."

Meanwhile, Rick Santorum received a standing ovation at last night's convention when he said, “I thank God that one party lifts up its hands to raise children, born and unborn.”

But most women we've talked to at the GOP convention don't want to talk about abortion, and they don't really want their president or their party talking about it either. Check out our video interviews on the subject after the jump -- then tell us what you think in the comments.

It was as if Mitt Romney's wife was once again fighting the mommy war with Democratic pundit Hilary Rosen last night. Ann Romney took to the podium at the RNC Convention in Tampa with a message for the mothers of America: no matter what your job is, you're still "just" a mom.

Romney's "woman behind the man" speech was a hit with Republican women who spoke with CafeMom Studios from the convention floor. Not surprisingly, the moms interviewed talked of how Ann Romney is the perfect person to show what a wonderful man her husband is.

And yet, as she talked up her man and tried to relate to women, Ann Romney did no favor to either gender.

Who needs Rage Against the Machine? I've got the perfect Romney/Ryan campaign song: Jesus loves me, this I know ... because he spared the RNC from the wrath of Hurricane Isaac and sent it straight to those sinners in New Orleans! Praise the Lord! (Throw hands in the air.) Pah-rayse HIM!

Yes, Rev. Jesten Peters of Tampa Bay says that when God Almighty decided to send Hurricane Isaac away from the Republican National Convention, He did so under the advisement of her prayer group, "Pray Tampa Bay."

“We have had lots and lots of people praying around the clock that it would move, and after you watch from the very beginning where they were saying it was coming and now where they say it is going, then it has really moved out of the way for us and we appreciate God doing that and moving it for us,” said the pastor.

That was super nice and accomodating of God, wasn't it?
