It was as if Mitt Romney's wife was once again fighting the mommy war with Democratic pundit Hilary Rosen last night. Ann Romney took to the podium at the RNC Convention in Tampa with a message for the mothers of America: no matter what your job is, you're still "just" a mom.

Romney's "woman behind the man" speech was a hit with Republican women who spoke with CafeMom Studios from the convention floor. Not surprisingly, the moms interviewed talked of how Ann Romney is the perfect person to show what a wonderful man her husband is. 

And yet, as she talked up her man and tried to relate to women, Ann Romney did no favor to either gender.

It's a volatile time for our nation, so it should come as no surprise that outside the Republican National Convention this week, you'll find plenty of protesters. And you may find you have more in common with these marchers than you think.

CafeMom is at the Republican Convention this week as part of our Moms Matter initiative. (Don't worry, we'll be at the Democratic Convention next week, too!) We've got an 11-person crew, a condo, and a tour bus here in Tampa. Add in a tropical storm and things are bound to get a little crazy.

The GOP may have canceled day one of the Republican National Convention, but CafeMom and Headline News stayed busy today, holding a discussion in the CNN Grill with a panel of notable Republican moms. Regular readers of The Stir know one of these moms all too well.

During our Moms Matter Road Trip, we made a stop in Reading, Pennsylvania, which, according to the 2010 census, is the poorest city in America.

Forty-nine percent of Reading's residents are living in poverty, and after talking to some of these residents, we got a real sense of the problems they're facing in that town.
