It should be a time for the victim in the highly publicized Steubenville rape case to breathe a sigh of relief. Her rapists, Trent Mays, 17, and Ma'lik Richmond, 16, were found guilty. Justice is hers. But America, we have failed this young girl. This child. This rape victim.

This week, a 16-year-old girl who was brutally raped had her name reported over the airwaves to the masses by several major networks. This week, two teenage girls were arrested and charged with menacing for allegedly threatening the teenage rape victim on Twitter and Facebook.

Should we have any sympathy for teen rapists Trent Mays and Ma'lik Richmond? Headlines for the convictions were still fresh when I noticed my friends expressing outrage over the sympathy reporters gave the Steubenville rapists. CNN's Poppy Harlow said she found it incredibly difficult "to watch what happened as these two young men that had such promising futures, star football players, very good students, literally watched as they believed their lives fell apart."

Watch what happened to them? Poppy, what the hell are you talking about?!? This is something Mays and Richmond did to themselves! They sexually assaulted a girl, and now they're facing the consequences. Will their actions haunt them for the rest of their lives? God, I hope so. But if I do feel any sympathy for them at all, it's that they were apparently raised in a community that set them up to rape.

Sensationalistic documentary film maker and rabble-rouser Michael Moore has a shocking proposal for dealing with gun control. He says we should release photos of the slain victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting in Newtown. It sounds horrifying and insensitive at the very least. And so, so wrong. But after I actually took the time to read his reasons, I have to admit: I think he's right.

Seeing photos showing exactly what Adam Lanza's guns did to those children would totally change how we think about guns.

But is it worth it? I say this with a heavy heart: I think so.

Rumors have been flying that Elisabeth Hasselbeck has not been asked to return to ABC’s The View next season due to her scary right-wing ideas like life beginning at conception. Us Weekly reported last week that the conservative commentator did not have her contract renewed for next year after polling showed that viewers thought her to be “too extreme.”

But then on Monday’s show, Barbara Walters walked in arm-in-arm with the 35-year-old mom of three and announced that she isn’t going anywhere. “The truth is, we love Elisabeth … beyond that we value and appreciate her point of view,” she said. “It’s important to us because Elisabeth helps give the show perspective and balance … we have no plans for Elisabeth to leave the show.”

Justice Page, Missing Since: Feb. 18, 2013When you think of famous missing persons cases in America, what pops into your mind? If you’re like me, probably Natalee Holloway, Caylee Anthony, Laci Peterson, or Jaycee Dugard -- four people whose terrible stories all have different endings, but who share one thing in common: the color of their skin. But have you ever heard of Tamika Huston, a 24-year-old African American woman who disappeared from her apartment in 2004, or 14-year-old Justice Page (pictured here), missing from her home in Silver Spring, Maryland since mid-February of this year?

Probably not -- and that’s exactly what motivated Derrica and Natalie Wilson, two moms and sisters-in-law, to start the Black and Missing Foundation, a non-profit geared toward helping minority families find their missing loved ones.

Hold the presses! This conservative Republican chick agrees with John Kerry about something. While addressing a group of students in Berlin, the Secretary of State said that in America, “you have a right to be stupid if you want to be.”

That’s completely true. In the land of the free and the home of the brave, we protect people’s right to say the dumbest stuff ever. Thank goodness for our politicians, because sometimes they really should think before they speak.

In honor of John Kerry, here’s a list of some dumb things that our elected officials have said recently:

This is the moment. Trayvon Martin died at almost this exact moment one year ago. Candlelight vigils are being held in his honor in Florida and New York City, social media has once again been leveraged to memorialize the tragedy, news outlets have marked the anniversary appropriately with reflective coverage and thoughtful commentary, but nothing will compensate for the final breath that 17-year-old child took on this day. Trayvon didn't make his mark on black history like he could have. He’s not the only young, unarmed African-American boy to be murdered without just cause or provocation and, unfortunately—but very realistically—he won’t be the last. But his is the story that brings the issue to the fore. His death has been the catalyst for the conversation about race that we’ve been avoiding as a country.

The look a TV anchor from New York's CBS affiliate is sporting in his mugshot isn't one his fans are used to seeing. Folks in the New York metropolitan area welcome Rob Morrison into their living rooms every morning, but not like this, not with a bloody cut running the length of his nose and a chin covered in stubble. Not after being arrested for allegedly choking his wife, Ashley Morrison, in the middle of the night.

As Morrison's mugshot from the Darien Police Department continues its viral journey around the Internet, you can see his reputation going up in smoke. Who wants to share their morning with a guy who looks like that, a guy accused of that?

    As if you aren't already?

A professor at a public university in West Virginia has forbidden her students from using Fox News as a research source because it’s biased and icky. Seriously. She also said they couldn’t use The Onion (a parody site), but if they had to choose between the two, she’d take The Onion over Fox News.

WOTV, a local NBC affiliate, got the scoop that a syllabus for a political science course at West Liberty University informs students that the two sources are unacceptable. Let me repeat: A professor of a political science course has banned Fox News from the classroom.

Zombies are shambling their way through pop culture right now -- what with Rick and the gang on The Walking Dead, zombie races that will really get you moving to the finish line, hackers pulling a prank on daytime TV watchers, and countless other zombie-happenings.

With all of this zombie talk, the zombie apocalypse has to be near, right? This week in Canadian Parliament, some humorous politicians (not an oxymoron, apparently) had some fun bringing up concern for Canadians’ safety in the event of a zombie apocalypse.
