Equality! According to senior defense officials, it seems as though Pentagon chief Leon Panetta is lifting the restriction for women in the military to serve in front-line combat positions and elite commando jobs. This “groundbreaking” effort lifts the 1994 rule prohibiting women from being assigned to smaller combat units. This will likely eventually include inclusion into special operation forces like the Navy SEALS and the Army’s Delta Force.

Currently women already serve in combat support roles as medics, military police, or intelligence officers, but this would be the first time they’d be able to be assigned specifically to a combat role on the front lines.

Kat Cammack is the 24-year-old girl wonder in House freshman Ted Yoho’s congressional office. The former pageant girl and head cheerleader is the unlikely congressman’s chief of staff, and she’s hoping to shake things up on the Hill.

Ted Yoho isn’t exactly what you’d expect to find roaming the halls of the Capitol, so it makes sense that his chief of staff isn’t either. He doesn’t come from the typical background of a lifelong career in politics or law -- he comes from the farm. Literally. Prior to challenging 12-term Republican Congressman Cliff Stearns in the primary last August, Yoho spent 30 years as a large animal veterinarian.

If you're asking who the heck Katherine Webb is, you probably didn't watch the BCS championship game between Alabama and Notre Dame last night or haven't spent much time online today. Because her name and face are everywhere after commentator Brent Musburger completely went gaga for her while announcing the game.

Not just any random fan, she's Miss Alabama and the girlfriend of Alabama's AJ McCarron, and she is quite stunning. But the way he went on and on ... and on about her while the camera zeroed in on her face was definitely a little much. You hear Musburger say, "Wow, I'm telling you quarterbacks: You get all the good-looking women. What a beautiful woman. Wow!" And he doesn't stop there. See what you think.

Maybe President Obama should borrow one or two of Mitt Romney’s binders full of women, because there’s clearly a shortage of females among his top staff. The White House recently released a photo on its Flickr account with the caption: "In the Oval Office, the President meets with senior advisors to discuss the ongoing fiscal cliff negotiations."

There are 11 men in the picture and exactly zero females.

A horrific crime that shocked India and sparked violent protests has gotten even more shocking. A woman who was gang raped so severly that she received severe organ damage has died. The unidentified woman, who was 23, was riding on a bus with a male friend after seeing a movie when six men attacked them, and gang raped the woman and inserted a metal rod into the woman's body. She and the man were then stripped and thrown off the bus. The woman received brain damage and internal injuries. In India, rape often goes unreported because women are blamed for it. This case so shocked the nation that thousands have been protesting since it happened, demanding better protection for women.

Mississippi’s last remaining abortion clinic is in danger of being shut down. Thanks to a law passed last spring, doctors are now required to have admitting privileges to a nearby hospital in order to perform abortions. Currently, only one of the three doctors working at Jackson Women’s Health Organization has such privileges.

The state health department granted the clinic six months to become compliant with the law. The deadline is January 11, 2013, and it looks like there’s no chance they’ll be successful. All seven nearby hospitals have denied admitting privileges to the other two doctors, who live out-of-state, according to a New York Times article published last July.

Governor Bobby JindalLast month, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists endorsed the idea of selling birth control pills without a prescription. Non-minor purchasers would be able to pick up their monthly supply right next to condoms and pregnancy tests and would be required to show ID.

Last week, Louisiana governor and rising Republican rock star Bobby Jindal publically agreed with the opinion and strongly stated his support for making birth control more accessible to any adult who wants it. Say what now? A decidedly pro-life GOP member isn’t trying to take women back to the 1950s by banning birth control? And in fact wants to increase access to it?

The devoutly Roman Catholic founder of Domino’s Pizza is suing the federal government over the mandatory contraception coverage in Obamacare. Tom Monaghan says that the health care law violates his rights to practice his religion, which does not allow the use of hormonal birth control.

Once intricately involved in day-to-day operations, Monaghan sold Domino’s for $1 billion in 1998, and has devoted much of his time and money since to Catholic causes. He has said, “I want to die broke.”

Currently, Domino's Pizza offers a health care plan to its eligible employees that excludes contraceptives and abortions. That isn't to say that they don't hire women that choose to use it or that have had abortions -- that would be discrimination. The company is simply not willing to pay for other people’s lifestyle choices.

Here we go again. Another man has weighed in on what a woman's body "should" do when a rapist is attacking her. This time it was a judge, and get this: after insisting that a woman's body "will not permit that to happen" in reference to a rape, Judge Derek Johnson is being allowed to remain on the bench in southern California.

Oh, Johnson was reprimanded for "outdated, biased, and insensitive views" by the California Commission on Judicial Performance. But like the "punishments" for outgoing Congressman Todd Akin and failed Senate candidate Richard Mourdock, who came perilously close to running pro-rapists campaigns this year, the sanction against Judge Johnson hardly sends the message it should.

    Rep. Jim Moran

Patrick Moran, the son of Congressman Jim Moran (D-VA), pleaded guilty on Wednesday to beating the crap out of his girlfriend. Well, those are my words. The Washington City Paper reported it as “brutally assaulting,” but I’m pretty sure that’s the same as beating the snot out of someone.

According to the police report, on December 1, Patrick and his girlfriend were at a bar in Washington, D.C., when they started arguing over his talking to another girl. Patrick then slammed her head into a metal trash can cage outside the bar. Later at Howard University Hospital, the lady was diagnosed with a broken nose and a skull fracture under her right eye.
