Steubenville, Ohio isn't the first place one might think of when they think of a rape scandal. It's a small steel town on the Ohio River where the football team is one of the few glories the town still has left. Now, it isn't steel or football that is making the town famous. It's a rape scandal.

On Saturday, throngs of protesters in Guy Fawkes masks descended on the town, fighting what they say was the unconscionable treatment of an alleged rape victim and her family. The case was made public, first by The New York Times and then by KnightSec, a hacker group that specifically targets rapists and some say harassed officials in Steubenville. They released a (disgusting, disturbing) YouTube video showing a Steubenville baseball player laughing about rape and an assault that allegedly happened last August.

Thanks to social media, the case has now blown up and Steubenville is being accused of aborting justice in the name of football. But is that a fair accusation?

Poor Ryan Lanza. First, the man finds out that his brother, Adam Lanza, is implicated a horrific mass shooting of elementary school children in Newtown, Connecticut. He also loses his mother at the hands of his younger brother. But then the the media blames him for these despicable crimes. I can't imagine what he's going through. Now someone has seemingly taken it upon himself to start a fake Ryan Lanza Facebook page. On it, he called himself a "victim" of the massacre too. Only it turns out the page is a complete hoax.

Wow, it's hard to imagine that a seemingly innocent yet totally juvenile prank would end with such tragedy. We all heard about how a couple of Australian radio hosts pranked a nurse, Jacintha Saldanha, working at the hospital Kate Middleton was admitted to, King Edward VII Hospital, due to her morning sickness. With some really terrible accents, they were able to dupe the nurse, who was the receptionist at the time, into thinking they were Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles. They joked about it and audio of the prank went viral. Then, suddenly, the receptionist who took the call was found dead.

It seemed the call infuriated Buckingham Palace, and those involved in the call had no problems boasting how they were able to trick the royals. But now, after Jacintha seemingly committed suicide, the radio hosts, Mel Greig and Michael Christian, have been taken off air in light of this terrible news. Many are calling for them to be fired.

Gen. David Petaeus and Paula BroadwellApparently if you get anywhere near the Gen. David Petraeus scandal, you get sucked into a seething vortex of high schoolish shenanigans and all-around draaamahhhh. It's beginning to look like a bunch of Real Housewives in government garb. First, we hear that Petraeus had an affair. But you knew it wasn't gonna end there, because affairs are usually a messy, whiny business. Unless you're French.

Then we learn that Petraeus's mistress, Paula Broadwell, was so insecure that another woman might steal away her aging general that she sent threatening Mean Girls-like missives to her imagined rival, Jill Kelley. Then we find out that another general, this one named John Allen, sent like a gazillion "inappropriate" emails to Jill Kelley. But that's not all folks! Now we learn that the original FBI guy looking into the scandal got pulled from it. Why? Wait 'til you hear this latest wackadoodle high school drama ...

The online hacking and activist group Anonymous is claiming they found Amanda Todd's first tormentor, the person who lured her into exposing herself on a webcam. They say he is a 32-year-old Vancouver man who also posted on child pornography sites. And they've posted the alleged tormentor's name and address online. The man is already receiving threats from online vigilantes.

But what about Amanda's parents? Does knowing that the bully who started it all was an adult change the story for them? Now I'm wondering how much they knew -- and how much even Amanda knew. If they were on webcams, did she know all along that she was exposing herself to a 32-year-old man?

'Clueless' actress Stacey Dash recently tweeted her support for Mitt Romney in the presidential election. Since she’s not only in the Hollywood scene, but also happens to be black, the reaction to her “coming out” was not kind.

Welcome to the I-support-a-candidate-other-than-Obama club, Stacey! Being called a racist is your initiation. Being a black member, you may also add the insult of ‘traitor to your race’ to your dance card.

How can Republican and Democratic moms learn to get along, work together, and most importantly, set an example for our children and others?

Stop calling each other names, and for Pete’s sake, stop excusing those who do.

Unfortunately, this phenomenon of calling women with differing political views horrible names comes almost exclusively from the left side of the aisle. Women on the right have been called traitors, bitches, and meat bags with lipstick (just to name a few of the more charming barbs).

Nearly two years ago Rutgers University freshman Dharun Ravi set up a webcam to spy on his roommate Tyler Clementi having a romantic encounter with another man. Days later Clementi killed himself. And this March Dharun was charged on 15 criminal counts including bias intimidation and invasion of privacy.

The judge could have thrown the book at Dharun and sentenced him to 10 years in jail. Dharun could have been deported back to India, where he was born and remains a citizen.

Instead the judge handed down a shockingly light sentence: 30 days in jail and three years' probation. It's definitely not what I expected.
