The Story About the Jeremiah Wright Story

jeremiah wrightWhat a mess the Jeremiah Wright story was. And part of me is marveling at all of the pressure inside politics and the media last week that led to the reporting of what was, in effect, a non-story. It was slightly Shakespeare-esque. First, you have all of the elements of a uniquely American drama and a political raw nerve -- race, God, PAC money and baseball.

Nothing Right About Jeremiah Wright

Jeremiah Wright is so 2008. Look, I don’t support this man and his incendiary rants, but he is old news. Nothing about this dated story is relevant. This story didn’t even get much traction four years ago. Obama cut his ties with Wright’s church during the last campaign and has not looked back. I’m pretty sure he has not been secretly skyping with Reverend Wright to get his church on. Let’s focus on issues and character and values and action. Mud slinging is messy business.

Hushing Talk of Jeremiah Wright is Racist & Shows Media's Bias

Jeremiah Wright
The lapdog media has decided that it will judge for the great "unwashed masses" which stories are relevant or not. It has deemed Jeremiah Wright irrelevant and is toeing the Democrat line by throwing out the race card, claiming that it's racist to discuss President Obama's pastor and spiritual counselor of twenty years.

Sorry, media, but the American people will decide what is relevant or not. And discussing the character of people with which a man surrounds himself is relevant, not racist. More importantly, there are allegations of a hush-money bribe. Exposing bribery is also not racism; it's called journalism.

Does Jeremiah Wright Matter in This Election?

Posted by Lindsay Ferrier
on May 22, 2012 at 9:38 AM

Jeremiah WrightJeremiah Wright is back in the news again.

The former pastor of President Obama made headlines back in 2008, when inflammatory remarks he'd made in his sermons about racism and September 11th were uncovered by the media. Mr. Obama already had distanced himself from Rev. Wright at that point, but some worried that the pastor's topics had influenced the future president's outlook.

Despite those concerns, Barack Obama won the presidency and Jeremiah Wright faded back into the woodwork.

Until now.

The New York Times has revealed a $10 million Republican proposal to launch a series of attack ads reminding voters of the Obama-Wright connection.

And so this week, we're asking our political bloggers this question: Does Jeremiah Wright matter in the upcoming election?

They'll be giving us their answers all week long. In the meantime, though, what do you think?

Cory Booker Defends Mitt Romney From Big Bad Bully Obama (VIDEO)

cory bookerPoliticians don't play nice.

That's a fact. Still, Newark, New Jersey Mayor Cory Booker blasted President Obama for running negative ads against Mitt Romney.

During an interview on Meet the Press, the Democrat and Obama supporter criticized the president's re-election team for it's attack ads on Bain Capital, a troubled company which Mitt Romney co-founded and once ran. Basically they are kicking out the message that Romney is a corporate exec who cares more about the bottom line than American jobs. Well, Booker found the whole stance "nauseating."

Obama's Support of Gay Marriage Will Drive Voters to the Polls

gay marriage protest

I don’t recall a presidential announcement to proclaim support of straight marriage. I don’t recall waking up one morning declaring I am straight. Why are we still talking of marriage equality in 2012? Please don’t talk to me about the sanctity of marriage. The likes of John Edwards, Larry Craig, Mark Sanford, Mark Souder, and Tim Mahoney have already made a mockery of marriage vows. Don't talk to me about homosexuality being a sin. I have seen firsthand the worst iteration of this mentality. Have we not yet determined that all citizens of the United States deserve the same rights? Keep in mind that I am in an interracial marriage, one that my state did not see as legal until 1976 when the Supreme Court forced it to. As a North Carolinian, the gay marriage wound is raw for me. It shall be interesting to see how Obama's recent support of gay marriage turns the election in my state, one that he narrowly won in 2008.

Barack Obama Is the Most Important President In History!

obama nixonWhen a new president takes the oath of office, he gets to change things up from his predecessor. He gets to pick his own cabinet members and other advisors, he redecorates the Oval Office and his family’s living quarters, and in modern times, he gets to redesign the White House website to suit his tastes.

Part of this President’s website redesign apparently included Obama inserting himself into the biography of every president since Calvin Coolidge (except Gerald Ford, for some reason). At the end of each section on a particular president in the last 100ish years, there’s now a “Did You Know” section relating some achievement of that predecessor to the current president.

Celebs aren't being shy about throwing their support behind their fave presidential candidate ASAP. First, George Clooney made massive headlines for his Obama re-election campaign fundraiser. Now, Carrie Bradshaw Sarah Jessica Parker is getting involved. She announced a new contest for campaign donors with the grand prize being tickets for two to attend a fundraiser at Parker and hubby Matthew Broderick's home in NYC on June 14. The event is being called "A New York Night" with Obama, our FLOTUS Michelle Obama, and SJP. Plus, the winner scores tickets to a Mariah Carey concert. Uh-whaaa?!

How cool! I've always fantasized about running into the Parker-Brodericks. Maybe we'd chat over some Jack's Stir Brew coffee or commiserate over the ridiculous line at Magnolia Bakery. But this would be even more amazing! Starstruck Sex & the City fangirl-dom aside, I'm also impressed with SJP's rationale behind the fundraiser.

Obama Was Born in Kenya & Wait Until You See the 'Proof'

obamaMan, some people just don't know when to quit.

Like the "birther" conspiracy theorists who'll jump on any and every piece of misinformation they can find and broadcast it as proof that Barack Obama wasn't born in the United States.

Nothing, not even the release of his long-form birth certificate, seems to put them off. And even though their arguments are as pointless and nonsensical as Newt Gingrich's ridiculous "Kenyan, anti-colonial behavior" remarks, those squeaky wheels still get lubed up with attention.

So I'm not surprised that they're all hopping up and down again, waving an author's bio of Obama from 1991 around in the air like a victory flag. Oh boy, we've really got him this time!!

I can just see them salivating when they first read these words...

healthcare postcardIn a move that should shock no one that’s been paying attention to the abomination that is Obamacare, a Catholic university has declined to continue insuring students who do not have their own coverage themselves or through their parents plans. Franciscan University of Steubenville has stated that due to increases in cost, as well as for religious purposes, it will no longer be covering uninsured students. It has also dropped its mandate that all students must have health insurance.
