Whoa! Doesn't it blow your mind when kids turn out to be tiny heroes in very serious situations? Then just wait until you hear about a 6-year-old who saved his family from a fire after waking up in the middle of the night and smelling smoke in his Florida home.

Tyler Taylor could've easily panicked when he realized that a fire had broken out, but instead, he calmly woke up his great-grandmother to alert her -- and she and his other family members managed to escape through the back door of the house.

And you can only imagine how scared that little boy must have been, which is why what he did next will absolutely amaze you.

Just one month after a tragic episode in San Francisco in which a bride-to-be and four friends were killed in a limo fire during a bachelorette party, another limo fire took place on Sunday, outside a retirement home east of San Francisco. (Yep, both episodes occurred in the City by the Bay. So strange.) This time, 10 women celebrating a friend's 90th birthday were involved, and all thankfully survived.

The group had reportedly been celebrating their friend Elayne Lofchie's big birthday at her home and were headed to her daughter's house in Sonoma County in the Lincoln Town Car, when white smoke began coming from the partition separating the driver and passengers, explained one of the passengers, Mary Chapman. As for the driver, once he noticed that smoke was coming out from the area where the switchboard -- which runs the television, stereo, and lights -- is, everyone got out, the limo company owner said.

We hear a lot of tragic stories about kids accidentally killing themselves or their siblings with guns that they've gotten ahold of -- but we don't hear too many stories of kids who accidentally kill a parent this way. But that is what happened last week when a 4-year-old boy reportedly killed his father after finding a loaded gun. The twist? The gun didn't belong to his father. Nor was it even in their home.

A new mother who had given birth the day before she struck and killed a nanny pushing a toddler in a stroller has been sentenced to only 48 hours in jail. The woman, a 35-year-old attorney from California named Christine Padilla, killed the nanny and severely injured the toddler after striking them in San Diego while she was driving. She reportedly admitted to police she was sleep deprived at the time.

There's scary news out of Philadelphia today. The City of Brotherly Love has come to a halt today as rescue workers rush to a demolition site to rescue people trapped beneath a collapsed building in the Center City area of town. Reports vary from just 2 people trapped to as many as 10 or 12 underneath the rubble, but one thing is clear: it's a dire situation.

Imagine, just going about your day, when suddenly a building collapses on you. It's unthinkable. And yet how many times do you walk by a construction site and not even think twice?

Once was a time that if you pulled some stupid and dangerous stunt and got hurt, mom said something like, "See that's what happens when you pull some stupid and dangerous stunt. Hope you've learned your lesson!" Now it's, "Hey, let me get on the Internet and see if a bunch of strangers will pony up to cover the costs of your stupid and dangerous stunt." Such is the case of the mom who posted a video of her teen daughter jumping off the roof of her house and into her pool -- only the teen missed the pool, landing hard on the concrete deck, and broke both her feet. Mom was not embarrassed to share video of it with the world -- and ask for donations. She probably wasn't expecting the entirely justifiable cyber-outrage.

Just outside of Los Angeles, five teenagers were killed in a horrific car crash last weekend that was supposed to be a triple date, but one teen's father refused to let him go out because he had a test to study for. That decision ended up saving his life. But the guilt must be beyond imagining.

The kids -- Abdulrahman Alyahyan, 17, Robin Cabrera, 17, Aurora Cabrerra, 16, Cecilia Zamora and Nozad Al Hamawendi, both 17 -- were just out enjoying the day when they struck a tree in a crash so violent, it tore the car apart. The teen who missed the date was angry, I am sure, with the father who made him stay home and study. Who wouldn't be?

We will all call him lucky and he certainly is, but oh God. That guilt. He will never be the same again. His father who grounded him must feel so relieved and yet such sorrow at the same time. I am sure people could look at this and see something divine, but it's not. It's just random luck.

Really sad news out of North Carolina today. The body of the Southwest Onslow High School star quarterback Shak Pershey, 19, was found off North Topsail Beach. His young life was clipped short. Right at the start of high school graduation season, when parents and students, should be celebrating the transition from high school to bigger and better things, this promising young man's family and friends are faced with tragedy. It's almost too much to bear.
