Cop Investigated After Video Surfaces of Possible K-9 Dog Abuse (VIDEO)

Any animal abuse is egregious, but this case is especially despicable. A police officer is being investigated after he was reportedly caught on camera abusing his K-9 dog. The dog was partnered with the unidentified officer, and both were called to the scene of a traffic stop in Indiana to search for drugs. The dog was doing his job. That's when someone in a nearby home saw the unthinkable -- and decided to videotape it.

The cop is seen on the video hitting the dog with his leash, and then picking the dog up and hanging him by the neck in mid-air. Whoever took the video then posted it on YouTube with the description:

Hammond cops abuses K9 unit and slaps dog with leash and lifts dog by throat.

"What the f*ck is he doing?" asks the shocked man who filmed the video as the cop hangs the dog high in the air.

Ugh, so awful. This dog is trained to be incredibly loyal to his police partner, and do whatever the man says. If the video is what it looks like, this is a sick twisted sociopath who shouldn't be paid to protect the public, because it's people like him that the public -- as well as the animal world -- need to be protected from.

There is some speculation that the cop was actually using a technique to get the dog to drop a ball, but nevertheless the cop has reportedly been placed on administrative leave and is being investigated. The mayor of the town where it happened, Hammond, said:

Anybody who loves dogs as much as I do is always saddened and shocked anytime you hear of a dog's abuse. When you find out it happened with an employee of yours, it makes it that much more shocking and disturbing.

I hope the police take this very seriously. Kudos to the person who took the video and was outraged enough to post it. Be warned, this video is graphic and NSFW.
