A New Hampshire mother has been arrested after her three kids under the age of 6 walked in zero degree temperatures to the police station, where one of them hoped to obtain a ride to school.
Katarina Short has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child and providing false information to police. The children, ages 5, 4, and 1 were caught on surveillance video walking alone in the street, and then showing up at the police station where they knocked on the door for help.
Police report that they all had coats and boots on for the trek, thanks to the eldest child making sure everyone was bundled up.
And I know what you're wondering -- where was Katarina and why didn't she take her son to school?
Check out this video to hear her excuse.
Walmart? Before school hours? Seems a little odd, don't you think?
Thankfully these children are safe in foster care, but that doesn't change how scared and confused they must be, and they're probably wondering why they can't go home and sleep in their own beds.
Considering the 5-year-old had the presence of mind to put everyone in coats and venture out into the cold for help, odds are good that he's quite familiar with taking care of himself and his siblings all on his own.
(And that's just sad.)
Do you think this mom should be allowed to keep her kids?
