6-Year-Old Girl Rescued From Revolting Home Overrun by Animals

As far as child abuse goes, this is pretty bad. A poor 6-year-old was found residing in living conditions so abhorrent that the mother and grandfather who were living there with the child were immediately arrested. Ready to have your stomach turned? There was no running water in the home for 30 days; there were 14 animals (12 cats, 2 dogs) who were allowed to urinate and defecate wherever they wanted to inside; the toilet was overflowing with feces; there were rodents crawling around in the ceiling; and the house had sagging floors.

This isn't even an appropriate state for the cats and dogs to live in, never mind the child! Thank goodness police were called and the kid is out of there. But how did it take this long?

Cops were called after Sarah Veazey, 38, Robert Veazey, 62, had some sort of dispute with their neighbors, and when police entered their home, they were each arrested and charged with child cruelty in the first degree. But a neighbor of the Veazeys (it's not known if it's the same neighbor who was involved in the dispute) said that they've been living next door to them for four years and never had an inkling that anything was wrong. How could this be?! Wouldn't there be some kind of clue somewhere that would indicate something wasn't right in the Veazey house? It's sickening to think that an innocent child lived here for so long. I mean, there was no running water for at least 30 days! So, on top of living in a literal pile of sh*t, she couldn't even be bathed. Heartbreaking.

There is a silver lining, though. The child has been removed from this hell hole and placed in protective custody. Thank goodness. Hopefully, this little girl will never, ever go back to living in such conditions; and hopefully her mother and grandfather will pay for their highly irresponsible, disgusting behavior. If they want to live like this, it's one thing. But don't drag a child into it.

What do you think an appropriate punishment would be for the Veazeys?

This story is disgusting and how can a mother do her own child like that.. What is wrong with people and to live in that house for years must have been bad in so many ways. That was so many germs and disease that the child could have caught. and died. I watch a show about people that are hoarders and they sound like they are HOARDERS AND NASTY.. That poor child I hope she can live a normal life and not never have to go back to that!!

We had a similar situation in our neighborhood a few years ago. How it happens is if the police or family services come and nobody answers the door they just go away. Municipal services should work together to keep this from happening. If a home isn't listed as vacant but has no water or power a report should be made. There were 2 kids with their mom in our experience and once they left the house it was absolutely horrific to see how they lived

No water or power and cat feces everywhere. Layer upon layer of clothing on the floor with trash everywhere. So sad for the kids who suffer

See, sometimes you CAN judge a book by it's cover.

As horrible as it sounds I had an aunt who did the same thing to my cousins growing up. It was disgusting and I always had to spend the summer there. The sad part is every time CPS was called my aunt was given notice of their arrival so we (children) spent the better part of 24 hours cleaning the house up. It was still obvious that it was disgusting and yet nothing happened. My cousin was an infant when I had to spend summers there and she was raised in it. She now has 2 children and living in same conditions. They eat their food right there on the couch with roaches crawling over them and dog poop on cushion next to them and it is natural for them. Guess what they still get advanced notice and therefore clean up before CPS comes. It is ridiculous that we can't get the children out of that place.

I can see how it would take so long. I grew up just like that, sometimes worse conditions (six dogs and some cats using the house as a toilet, sometimes no water, dead animals, mold, maggots, etc). I was never taken away and my mother never arrested. I just grew up and moved out. I'm glad this little girl has a chance at a normal life now.

How is it with stories like this that no one had any idea what was going on? People are suspicious of everything and no one knew? Really?!

Wow Summerlion1123 I am so sorry that happened to you, but glad you got out.

There is no excuse for living in these conditions. Perhaps it wasn't always like this, perhaps they fell on hard times and it wound up getting this way because the mother and grand father were depressed about the situation and it got out of hand. Perhaps that is why the neighbour had no clue about what was going on in that house.....DOUBTFUL but like I said PERHAPS...but still no excuse to live in these conditions....especially witha child.

Summer, I had the exact same experience. My mom just sorta snapped after my grandparents passed away when I was 12 so she stopped caring. My dad is one of those guys that god help him if he has to even get his own drink much less help clean around the house. From 12 on it was complete squaller or my parents would beat the holy hell out of me to get it cleaned, even their own bedroom. As soon as I hit 17 I joined the military and got out. I still have a big phobia about roaches and mice.
