Miracle Baby Found Alive in a Dumpster With Umbilical Cord Still Attached

OMG 36

Carlos Mitchel was just taking out the trash on Tuesday morning in Houston when he heard a soft mewing coming from the overfilled dumpster he had just tossed his bag into. Thinking it was an animal needing rescue, the construction worker untied the plastic bag the sound was coming from and got the shock of his life.

Inside was a newborn baby boy, about seven or eight pounds, with four inches of umbilical cord still attached. The baby was purple and struggling for breath amidst food scraps and homework papers.

Mitchel, a grandfather, wrapped him up and called 911 while he and a coworker warmed the infant up in a vehicle. Emergency workers gave him oxygen when they arrived, and his color and breathing improved. He’s now in good condition at a local hospital.

The mother has been identified as a 16-year-old high school girl that local residents said tried to hide her pregnancy. She’s being medically treated at the same hospital as her son, and the police will have to decide whether to press charges or not.

Adding insult to injury in a case like this is the fact that Texas observes a “Baby Moses” law. Parents that can’t raise their babies for whatever reason are able to hand them over to authorities in safe spots -- without fear of prosecution. Infants up to 60 days old may be left at hospitals or fire stations. Lord knows there are more than enough parents on adoption lists waiting for that call.

I wish someone had told this girl that. Heck, maybe she knew but was still scared. I can’t imagine what was running through her head. But I’m betting she didn’t believe she had any other options.

Do you think the mother should be brought up on charges?

Absolutely. This is attempted murder. No sympathy here for any human being who would wrap a baby in a plastic bag, and thow it away in a dumpster.

She willingly tried to end the life of another, of course she should be charged. She is old enough to face the charges.

She should get a bullet to the brain.

I'm with lane.

Should she be charged? Really it's a question? Ummmm she tried to murder her kid. Yes she should be charged. 16 is plenty old enough to know what she was doing.

maybe if here in texas people could get freakin abortions, things like this wouldn't happen.

Yes, she should be charged.  I'd still like more detail - like who the father is - home circumstances -etc.  It's no excuse, but 16 is still young.  What if her father or step father is the Dad?  Walk a mile in her shoes.  There may be reasons, but no excuse.

No charges should be filed.

No charges. Yes to community service and parenting classes for future kids. Our Judicial system is meant to rehabilitate therefore she will come out a WORSE member of society if she goes to prison .And we will have to deal with her and many like her as a society.

i dont give a crap the reasons, at 16 I knew better and so did all of my friends so you can't say she's to young and if she was raped the man who did this needs to be punished as well but you do NOT do that to an innocent baby who didn't ask to be put here all he did was be born, its not his fault for exsisting. I hope a loving family that has been waiting for a baby of their own gets him and spoils the daylights out of him and show him the love he needs
