After celebrating a formal, royal Christmas and a low-key New Year's with the Middleton brood, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are gearing up for a big 2014. There's been wide speculation for a while now that the couple plans to travel with Prince George for the first time overseas, and perhaps grandmother Carole Middleton will be his "nanny." But now, further details about the upcoming royal tour of Australia are emerging ...
Although Clarence House has yet to confirm the exact game plan, preparations are underway for the major trip, according to The Sydney Morning Herald. In order to offer little George an extra dose of stability, the royal family will reportedly be based in Sydney when they arrive in Australia in April for the month-long visit, during which they'll also travel to New Zealand.
The Sydney paper went on to note that "an advance party of royal aides will arrive in Sydney this month to finalize precise details of the expected month-long itinerary. One key issue is secure accommodation where the then nine-month-old Prince George, third in line to the throne, can be cared for while the royal couple meet what is likely to be a grueling program."
Makes sense. It bears noting that Prince William traveled with Prince Charles and Diana to Australia when he was around the same age as George in 1983. Will and Kate's trip may very much resemble that tour. Although, in '83, Charles, Diana, and William stayed not in Sydney but in the Woomargama homestead, located near the city of Albury, and that's where Prince William reportedly took his first steps. Aww!!
While the same may be true of George, we shouldn't expect to see those first steps -- or much of him at all on this trip. Valentine Low, royal writer on The Times in London, explains:
William and Kate are very keen to protect their privacy and also that of George and they will probably allow George to be seen once or twice, as Charles and Diana did with William. Apart from that, he'll be kept somewhere out of the public eye.
Still, it'll be exciting to see the trip documented and even hear about how Kate, William, and George are enjoying themselves Down Under! Can't wait!
What are you most looking forward to seeing/hearing about the royals' trip to Australia?
