Christmas is sometimes a rough time of year for people, but usually people manage to hold it together. Occasionally though, it seems as though someone snaps, and we may never know what exactly happened to lead them to commit terrible crimes.
An Arizona woman was arrested over the weekend for allegedly poisoning her children with prescription narcotics. One of the four kids, a teenage girl, died. Connie Villa’s other three children, ages 3, 5, and 8, are fine but did have small amounts of opiates in their systems. She’s also accused of stabbing her ex-husband.
The police were alerted to the scene on Christmas Day when Connie’s former husband Adam Villa called 911. He had fled the apartment, and when the cops arrived, they found the body of 13-year-old Aniarael Marcias, along with the mom and three other children. She was holding a knife and was bleeding from stab wounds that officers believe were self-inflicted.
Toxicology reports are pending on the 13-year-old, but police say that it appears she was poisoned.
The surviving children were placed in protective custody with Adam Villa’s family. News reports say he was not the father of the deceased teenager.
No motive is known at this time, and unfortunately, this might be one of those cases where there isn’t really a motive except that someone lost it. I don’t believe that rational, mentally healthy people harm their children on purpose to the point of killing them.
This is just a sad, sick story, and my heart breaks for those kids. They deserve to have a mother that loves them unconditionally, not one that makes them sick.
Do you think Christmas sometimes brings out the worst in people?
