Thursday marked the seventeenth anniversary since 6-year-old beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey was found dead in the basement of her parents’ home in Boulder, Colorado, but that doesn’t mean that we’re not still gripped by the unsolved murder case.
Even though it’s been almost two decades since that little girl was killed, a new book by longtime investigative reporter Paula Woodward is about to hit the shelves. Back then, she was seen as a defender of the Ramseys’ innocence, and after spending the last four years reviewing the case extensively, she’s still not drawing any hard conclusions about whodunit.
"That case was full of misperceptions, and nobody knows what I thought then and after reviewing it for four years, nobody knows what I think now," Woodward said. "I have cooperation from John Ramsey, from law enforcement people, from Ramsey attorneys, from people involved on the periphery. A lot of people seemed willing to talk."
If she has full cooperation with John Ramsey and his attorney, I’m going to go ahead and assume that she’s not going to use the book to change her stance and point a finger at the parents.
It was revealed earlier this year that a grand jury voted to indict JonBenet’s parents in 1999, but the DA dropped the case because he didn’t feel there was enough evidence for a conviction. In 2008, DNA evidence lead to their exoneration, but Patsy never got to see her name cleared -- she died of ovarian cancer in 2006.

One skeptic of Woodward’s new book is Boulder Police Chief Mark Beckner, who said, "I think at this point, not much that can be said about the case or reported about the case or written about the case has any effect anymore … this is really a cold case. Too much time has passed; too much has already been made public."
Yes, a lot of time has passed, but the killer of a beautiful little girl remains at large, and that’s something that’s hard not to be gripped by.
Do you think we’ll ever know who killed JonBenet?
