Talk about something that only seems possible in the movies! A 16-year-old Seattle girl is alive after a stray bullet in a drive-by shooting shot her in the head Saturday night. She had fallen asleep wearing her glasses, which reportedly deflected the bullet and left her with relatively minor injuries.
Alonza Bryant had fallen asleep on her parent’s couch when a group of hoodlums drove by her house and opened fire. Apparently several shots went through the walls and windows, and one struck the bridge of her glasses. They broke, but her skull remained intact, thank goodness.
“I fell asleep with my glasses on,” the teenager said. “If I didn’t have my glasses on I wouldn’t be here.”
Miraculously, no one else in the house was injured.
It’s unclear why the house was targeted, or if there was an intended victim. Alonza’s mom, LaVette Bryant, said they’re “honest, upright citizens” with no connections to any gangs. “We don’t do anything -- harm -- to anyone in this neighborhood,” she said.
She also said that she doesn’t want her family to spend another night in that house. “We have to move,” she insisted. “We have to find a place to stay tonight because we’re not staying here.”
I don’t blame her a bit.
