Ever since the horrible shooting at Araphoe High School near Denver, Colorado last week, we've all been hoping and praying for the best. But sadly, Karl Pierson's victim Claire Davis died today as a result of the injuries she sustained in the incident. She passed away at 4:29 p.m. local mountain time.
In a statement on the Littleton Adventist Hosptial Facebook page, officials said that Claire's "injuries were too severe and the most advanced medical treatments could not prevent this tragic loss of life."
They added, "Claire’s death is immensely heartbreaking for our entire community, our staff and our families."
This is so awful, I'm not even sure what to say. Last Friday, December 13th, was a difficult day for every parent in this country, being that it was almost one year to the date of the anniversary of the Sandy Hook school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut last year.
More from The Stir: School Shooting Victim Might Have Been Trying To Stop Gunman
In the back of my mind, I worried about something similar happening -- which made the news of the shooting at Arapahoe High School even more frightening. It's simply unthinkable that something so horrific could happen in one of our schools again.
And amid reports that Claire may have been trying to stop the shooter when she was targeted, today's news couldn't possibly get any more devastating.
My heart is with the Davis family tonight, and I will be keeping them in my thoughts and prayers -- even more so being that it's only a few days before Christmas. Can you even imagine their heartache right now? No parent should ever have to come to terms with something so painful. Again ... I don't even know what to say. They have my deepest sympathy during this awful time. My heart is so heavy for them.
