Kate Middleton, Prince William, and their little boy Prince George are inarguably three of the world's most fascinating, talked about people, especially this year. But that honor unfortunately comes with its setbacks, like needing lots of security. The young royal family has actually taken a bold new step recently to bolster their safety: Investing in a brand-new, bullet-proof $400K Bentley, which the Duke and Duchess took to a film screening at the Natural History Museum last week.
Called the "Flying Spur," the "supercar" is designed for "unrestrained luxury alongside uncompromising performance," but will be used to transport Kate and Wills to high-profile, official engagements. It boasts a hand-crafted walnut interior, a champagne cooler, Wi-Fi, and quilted leather seats that heat up and have a massage function. But in addition to all those ridiculously posh bells and whistles, the car is also built to protect the famous family.
Safety features include bullet-proof windows and super-hardened steel armor. Whoa! Sounds like an automobile suited for royalty. (This Bentley is their third car, by the way, as they already have a Jaguar and a Range Rover, which we saw William drive Kate and newborn George away from St. Mary's Hospital in.)
The investment certainly makes sense, considering Kate and Wills' position as uber-visible public figures ... I'm sure Prince William is particularly conscious of what kind of car they travel in at all times, considering Princess Diana's tragic death. For that reason, and others, I can understand why they would feel the need to go to extremes to ensure their -- and little George's -- security.
That said, I'm not sure the massage feature is necessarily integral to their protection, but hey, the drawbacks of being royal have to come with some perks!
What's the priciest purchase you've ever made to ensure your family's safety?
