Man Commits Suicide at Mall After Girlfriend Won't Stop Shopping

Heartbreaking 15

If you hate shopping, you might just want to say no next time your significant other insists you accompany her or him on their next marathon shopping spree. Because too much shopping might send you over the edge -- literally. A man in China reportedly jumped to his death off a shopping mall balcony after a five-hour shopathon that his girlfriend refused to end.

According to the Daily Mail, the couple began arguing when the man, 38-year-old Tao Hsiao, began pressing his girlfriend to let them go home. He reportedly protested that they already had more bags than they could carry.

But just then his girlfriend spotted a shoe sale and wanted to head in for a little shoe therapy. He argued that she already "had more shoes than she could wear in a lifetime." She accused him of being cheap.

That's when Hsiao apparently lost his will to live and dove over the seven-story railing to his death. But not before hurtling the Christmas bags to their doom below as well.

This all sounds like some bizarre SNL skit, but apparently it really happened. A mall spokesman reportedly said:

This is a tragic incident, but this time of year can be very stressful for many people.

My guess is that there was more going on here than endless shopping. This poor man sounds like he had other issues.

But really, it's okay to tell your spouse you do NOT want to accompany him or her on a shopping trip. Or to leave. Take some bags, go home.

Please, everyone, if the holidays are getting to you, and you think you might do something this extreme, ask for help. Call 1-800-273-8255 (TALK).

And remember, there's always January 2.

Do the holidays ever get to you?

my husband told me about this earlier today. He tried to make a case for me stopping my shoe obsession. There were obviously other issues here and the 5 hour shopping marathon threw him over the edge

I know people say suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem but this is just extreme.

@adamat34, obviously a person who would do this is unstable, thank you for your arrival at that conclusion. What would we have done without you? To call that person stupid is just beyond words; seems you have issues as well.

@Adamat34. You know who else is stupid his girlfriend. For not recognizing his distress, but like most women shoes over her man well-being. Five f-nig hours...no respect for her man.

While there may have been other issues, doesn't seem strange that his girlfriend would have forced her obviously unstable boyfriend to shop for 5 hours. I've had to do it and watch as my wife shopped, looking obviously excited, while I would have stayed home and shopped online.

If shopping lasts more than 5 hours, you're doing it wrong.

Adamat34 you are a serious a-hole! Also,I love how this woman bare zero responsibility, but that like most women. Don't give a crap if they are not affected.
