10 Nelson Mandela Quotes as the World Says Goodbye to the Beloved Leader

Nelson Mandela

Five days after Nelson Mandela passed away, thousands gathered together today at FNB Stadium near Johannesburg, South Africa, to honor the anti-apartheid famed Nobel Peace Prize winner. President Obama was joined by other world leaders, former U.S. presidents, Mandela's family, and thousands of South African citizens as they celebrated Mandela's legacy at the official memorial service (the funeral will be December 15). Obama addressed the large crowd and was met with resounding applause, praising Mandela as a "giant of history who moved the nation toward justice and, in the process, moved billions around the world."

And that he did. The man who knit together South Africa was a man of many words. Words that will continue to inspire millions for years and years to come.

Let's remember him today. Take a look at 10 of our favorite Nelson Mandela quotes, here:

We might all be a little sick of the speeches, etc but he was a great man. Yes our country is not at its greatest right now considering who is in power. We're in sh*t street really but this was not his vision. Not what he wanted for this country. How was he a monster? If your have nothing good to say about a man you did not know or have the pleasure of meeting...if you have not lived through the changes he made...SHUT the hell up

As a South African, I can honestly say that Nelson Mandela was a selfless leader. He gave so much for a non-racial country. He could have been a bitter person, but he forgave his oppressors as he fought white and black domination.

A monster? This man improved the lives of millions of people. What a great soul this man had, to spend 27 years in prison defending each and every one's rights in South Africa. In fact, he illegally traveled the globe to share his peaceful ideologies that portrayed love and unity. This man has a great heart, and he succeeded in saving lives and attempted to make the country better. He succeeded much farther in progressing the country than anyone has in a long time. Before you speak negatively, do some research. Respects.
