Marine Heroically Catches Woman Who Jumped From Football Stadium Deck

Hero 7

raiders coliseumA heroic 61-year-old Marine Corps Veteran sprang into action to try to stop a woman from jumping from the third tier of the Oakland Raiders Coliseum right after the game on Sunday. The Marine, whose identity hasn't been revealed, was on the second tier when he noticed the suicidal woman above on the next tier alone and preparing to jump.

Witnesses say the hero pleaded with her telling her not to do it, but she jumped falling about 45 feet before the Marine tried to catch her to shield her fall.

The woman, also anonymous, suffered critical injuries but Sgt. J.D. Nelson of the Alameda County Sheriff's Office said that she would have died had it not been for the selfless act of a stranger. Nelson said, "He saved her life quite honestly, at his own expense. This guy 100 percent saved her life. She'd be dead now."

Certainly he was in the right place at the right time to help this woman, but trying to catch a person after they have jumped 45 feet is terrifying and dangerous. Still, he's a Marine. He knows about terrifying and dangerous situations and this woman is very lucky this hero was on the tier below her.

The Marine suffered serious injuries as well and in the hospital but is expected to recover. He's also a lifelong Raiders fan, and Sheriff Nelson reported that the hero is a very compassionate person who didn't want this woman to die and also didn't want anyone in the stadium to witness such a death. He's alert and concerned about the woman who jumped, and is hoping she makes a full recovery.

I think I can speak for us all in saying that we are so thankful for this Marine, for his service, his sacrifices, that continue even today. He's truly a hero. (I think he also deserves lifetime tickets to Raiders games.)

Have you ever witnessed something as terrifying as this?

What a cowardly way out. And a show-off to boot. Who kills themselves in a stadium full of people? He risked his life to save someone who didn't want saving. A true hero for sure. I would like to know who the woman is, so I could call her and explain that my 26 year old friend with a husband and 20 month old baby would really give anything to be healthy right now. She was diagnosed with a brain tumor today. There's no excuse or reason to take your own life, and certainly not in that manner.

All these crazy, mindless things going on in the world, especially America... Do you ever think that it may be in our food? Or water even? There's just too many happenings that just don't make any sense whatsoever, like America is having a social breakdown! 80% of our food ( I believe that was the statistic %) is banned in almost all other countries due to the ingredients that our FDA allows & it's killing us, literally!!

On a softer note, that Marine is a true hero once again & deserves the recognition as such, putting his health & well being, possibly even life on the line to save someone from such a selfish act... I hope the she gets the help she seems to desperately need right now & that she truly has loved ones that she can lean on.. My prayers go out to her & the Marine---hoorah! Once a Marine ALWAYS a Marine!!!

This guy is a hero. I hope this is an eye opening experience for the woman and she can improved her life. On another note however, @austinsmommy it doesn't sound to me like you know anything about depression or suicide. How would telling a depressed person something like that make it better? Maybe you should do some research before you say things like that. This woman is clearly in a bad mental place.
