Family Rescues Abducted Mother From Abandoned Home & Kills Her Kidnapper

This Just In 40

bethany ArceneauxThe latest news out of Louisiana brings all new meaning to the phrase "family comes first." After being abducted by the father of her 2-year-old son and taken to an abandoned home, a 29-year-old woman was rescued by her family when her cousin kicked in the back door of the home and shot and killed her kidnapper. Bethany Arceneaux was kidnapped by Scott Thomas near a daycare center last Wednesday evening, leaving their child abandoned inside of Bethany's car.

The Arceneaux family immediately organized a search team looking for the young mother, and after hearing screams coming from the house -- about a dozen family members stormed into the home. The family found Scott stabbing Bethany, and the cousin shot several shots at her attacker. According to Bethany's brother:

If we would have waited, she would have been dead.

Wow. If this doesn't sound like a scene out of a movie ...

By the time police arrived on the scene, Thomas was dead. Initial reports review that no charges have been filed against the Arceneaux family and Bethany's cousin fired the weapon in defense of the victim. Today, the family is thankful that she's safe and back where she belongs. Bethany's aunt said:

God is good. We followed our faith and believed she was alive. God answers prayers.

To think, Bethany's family killed the man who tortured her, the man who hands down would have been a horrible father to her young son. They did it because they had to. They did it because they refused to let days go by, and vowed to find Bethany alive.

After the frightening altercation, Bethany was taken to Lafayette General Medical Center and is now in stable condition.

Would you have acted in the same way if you were part of Bethany's family?

Amen. Good for her family not waiting on the police. Lesson for us all.

Hell yes I would've done the same. I'm really surprised charges weren't brought up for killing him. Seems like they would've been in this sad, anti-2nd Amendment liberal world we all live in today.

Ugh.  I just don't like the title or the way this is written.  It sounds like the family murdered the man, when the facts are that they defended her against the man.  They protected her, and it resulted in the guys death.  NOT the same as going after someone and just killing him.

If I had an a-hole "boyfriend" like this it would never have gotten as far as it did. For one thing there is no way in HELL anyone's going to "force" me into a vehicle. If you're going to kill me do it right there so my family has a body to bury instead of finding my bones years from now. Secondly, the guy would be holding his nuts after I got done kicking them so he wouldn't have been able to do anything else.

Unfortunately, jane, not everyone has the foresight or training to resist.  It's possible she allowed herself to be removed in an effort to protect her child.  As to the question posted, I can only say that I hope I would.

Todd, I guess I am the type of person who tries to be prepared by running "what-if" scenarios through my head. Plus, I raised two sons who are now Marines so I've had more conditioning, ha ha. I don't know where daycare staff was during all this, but I'd like to think I would have done something to help.

Absolutely!  Good for that family!  They did what they needed to do to get her back alive!  I hope no idiotic prosecutor decides to press charges on the cousin.  That would be a great injustice!

For certain. He deserved what he got.
