Man Surprises Wife on 50th Wedding Anniversary With Grand, 'Corny' Gesture (PHOTO)

derthick's corn mazeAs a newlywed, the thought of celebrating a 50th wedding anniversary is downright awe-inspiring. My own parents have been married almost 37 years, and my grandparents celebrated their 60th several years back, and still, a healthy, happy marriage that lasts that long is always cause to celebrate in a BIG way. And that's exactly what one man from Ohio named Paul Derthick chose to do to mark the milestone anniversary of his 1963 nuptials.

Paul surprised his wife Marie by carving 17 acres of their Ohio farm into a giant corn maze that looks, from above, just like the couple's wedding photo. "He did it with the kids. They kept it a secret. I thought they were nuts, but it's actually turned out very well," Marie told Good Morning America. Awww, so cute!

Marie elaborated on her thoughts:

They put it together very nicely, with the church where we were married at the top, and our wedding picture of the two of us in the middle and the old tractor at the bottom.

Ha, I love how matter-of-fact she is about the whole thing. Maybe she wasn't all that fazed because while pretty phenomenal to the rest of this, unusual corn maze designs are kinda NBD in the Derthick family. They've been creating them on their 181-acre Mantua, Ohio farm for seven years. Marie says they've done John Glenn "because he had his 50th anniversary of going around the world" and "the Twin Towers in honor of the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11." Also, "the Steelers and the Browns."

Still, whether it was something that comes naturally to the Derthicks or not, you can tell this was a labor of love. The magnitude of this statement! And after 50 years. Talk about pulling out all the stops! Love it.

What do you think about this husband's romantic move?
