9-Year-Old Sneaks Through Security & Boards Plane to Las Vegas Alone, Without Ticket

Say What!? 14

airplaneWe'd like to think security is tight in this country, especially in airports. But one child found a way to sneak through all checkpoints and board a plane alone. Without a ticket. Without his parents even knowing. The 9-year-old boy flew from Minneapolis to Las Vegas on Thursday on a Boeing 757, Delta flight 1651.

No one seems to have any answers as to how he got through security at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. No one knows how he was able to board the plane without a pass. But once the flight was in the air some of the crew became suspicious of the child.

Kids 5 to 14 are allowed to fly without their parents for Delta as part of their unaccompanied minor program. But they are supervised by someone from the airline -- they get walked on board and seated. But this wasn't the case for this unnamed kid. And what's even more disconcerting is the airport has reviewed footage and noticed the boy was there at the airport the day before as well. Acting completely suspicious.

Officials said he spent part of his time taking luggage from a carousel, then going to a restaurant within the terminal and then asking an employee of the eatery to watch his bag when he went to the bathroom. The child never returned to get the bag.

That employee should have told someone about that don't you think? Perhaps he did. Perhaps the right follow ups weren't done. Red flags everywhere. Hello TSA? What happened to homeland security? Is this because of our shutdown? What is going on here?

The kid left the airport and returned the following day by train. He went through lines and checkpoints undetected. I don't know about you, but this makes me very uncomfortable. I already had a fear of flying, and this lack of security makes me feel even more unsafe.

More details have yet to emerge in this story, but child protection services are involved and everyone is looking into the matter.

Does this make you concerned about security at the airport?

What lack if security? It says he went through the lines implying he was screened. Minors are not required to show ID. My biggest concern is where are his parents. Also if concern why was he allowed on the plane without a boarding pass?

Does this make me concerned about lack of security.  um yes.  You aren't supposed to be able to get past the gates and into the boarding area without a pass.

how the heck did his parents not know where he was?  Why did he do this?  Was he trying to go see someone?

People usualy assume kids are with someone, nor is a lone kid likely to take over a plane.  He went through the metal detectors and such, I am sure...this shouldn't happen, but I don't think it's a huge security risk for others.  It's more the kid's safety I would worry about.

I don't understand how the child got past the gates. I couldn't get through without a pass for myself and my kids when we picked my hubby up when he came home from deployment.

Why isn't anyone asking the questions of where the hell are this kids parents?? 9 yrs old and he can leave his home 2 days in a row and go to an airport. His parents did not notice? I am glad child protective services are involved in this one. I have a 9 yr old daughter and I never let her out of the house alone unless it is next door to her best friends house and even then the parent has to be home. My friend and I call each other if the others kid comes over so we know they are safe

No actually like the first commenter. I am wondering where are this child's parents? Is this a missing child? How do we even know he has a home. What if he escaped kidnappers n is tryin to get home. Idk but that was my first thought. Honestly security didn't come to my mind...maybe its being a mother, child first, me second. No offense.

CNN says he was a runaway

Obviously he was a run away, he left the state alone! What I want to know is if the parents reported him as a run away, or if they were negligent enough to not even notice he was gone. Something is wrong in this child's home that he felt the need to do this, and they need to be investigated.
