I don't know about you, but when I check into a hotel the first thing I do is check the closets and under the beds. I've never found anything of interest, but I bet Guy Whittall sure wishes he had checked, because what was hiding under his bed was the stuff of nightmares -- a live, eight-foot crocodile.
Yes, you read that right -- a live crocodile with a mouth full of teeth and a bad temper. It happened in Zimbabwe at the Humani Lodge, and the craziest part of the story is that Whittall didn't even know he had a guest all night long. So there Whittall slept, right on top of the ferocious beast.
He told the New Zimbabwe:
The really disconcerting thing about the whole episode is the fact that I was sitting on the edge of the bed that morning, bare foot and just centimeters away from the croc.
Whittall might never have noticed the croc had a housekeeper not come in the next morning and started screaming.
Living in Florida with a healthy fear of gators and crocs, this is the stuff of my nightmares ... or will be after reading this. He's one lucky guy that that croc was so calm and didn't go looking for a late night snack.
Fortunately, employees were able to "rope and haul" the crocodile back out in the wilderness, but wow. If you've ever told your children there's no chance of monsters hiding under their beds, you may want to rethink that.
Do you check under your bed each night? Will you now?
