We've seen people post plenty of crazy things on Facebook, but a Miami man posted something today that was terrifying and downright criminal. According to the Miami Herald, Derek Medina, 31, posted a picture of his wife, Jennifer Alfonso, 26, after he allegedly shot and killed her. Then he drove to the police station and turned himself in freely.
Police rushed to his townhouse, and found Alfonso's body. They also found her 10-year-old daughter there unharmed. The message he posted on Facebook (which has since been removed) is chilling, and offers what is supposed to be an explanation for his brutal behavior.
My wife was punching me and I’m not going to stand anymore with the abuse so I did what I did. Hope u understand me. I’m going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife. Love you guys. Miss you guys. Take care. Facebook people you’ll see me in the news.
Can you imagine reading that in your Facebook feed? Then seeing the ghastly picture (with the caption "Rip Jennifer Alfonso"), which reportedly showed her lying on the floor of their kitchen with "her legs bent back at an awkward angle" and her "left arm and left cheek are bloody"? I don't know how long it was between the time that he posted the pictures and arrived at the police station, but it's hard to believe that no one called police before he got there.
When we think of someone getting angry enough or crazy enough to murder someone we tend to think of them doing it in a fit of rage, when they're not thinking clearly. To think that this man took the time to post to Facebook after allegedly killing the woman he loved is just incomprehensible, and it's terrifying to think that people like this exist.
What would you do if you read a message like this on Facebook?
