If you've ever wondered what a grown man would look like wrestling a 7-foot shark you're in luck. A grown man recently wrestled a 7-foot shark in Nantucket and the entire thing is caught on tape. It's crazy. It's scary. It's just plain odd. And also, it's pissing a lot of people off. Check out the insane video and then let's discuss why it's kind of understandable why some people would be peeved at this.
Okay, I fully get the level of badassery one attains when they can say -- and show -- they wrestled a shark with their bare hands. But ... the poor shark. I know this guy threw the shark back into the ocean where he can be free (while others cook 'em up and serve 'em at their restaurants), but the shark wasn't bothering this guy. What's the big idea here? And even more disconcerting is the fact that this is a hobby for this man. Elliot Sudal has caught and released hundreds of sharks over the past eight months. Sudal said: "It's my favorite thing to do. I've been fishing my whole life. It's almost like a drug, it seems like I can't go more than a few days without fishing. The bigger the fish the better. It's a big epic battle -- after catching a big shark you can't really go back to catching five-pound fish."
Now, to be fair, Sudal fancies himself a bit of a conservationist, so perhaps this is his way of "getting his message out". But something about this video, although completely fascinating, just seems kind of off. I can't put my finger on it, but I feel like it's the part where Elliot is pulling really hard on the shark's fin in order to get him out of the water. But I could be wrong.
Do you think what this man did is cruel?
