New Clues in Iowa Cousins' Murders Could Be a Last Shot at Justice

Missing Iowa cousinsNext month marks a year since missing Iowa cousins Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins disappeared while on a bike ride. The girls' bodies were discovered back in December. Now the latest and possibly only remaining chance of finding these children's killer lies with people's memories.

Can people in Evansdale, Iowa go back a year to July 13, 2012? Can they identify the driver of a white, older model SUV similar to a Chevy Suburban or Ford Bronco seen near where the girls were riding their bikes?

You don't have to be in law enforcement to know the chances are slim. Time is not on their side. People's memories are fickle.

If the driver of the white SUV was friendly, in all likelihood, he would have come forward by now with information. If he's somehow tied up in the crime, well, it's been a year and he's been able to stay hidden ... he's going to want to keep it that way.

For the sakes of Elizabeth's and Lyric's families, I'd like to think this lead will lead to something, but who knows.

The real news here is that a year later, police haven't given up on these kids.

I want to commend the police in Evansdale for working a new lead, for getting out there and shaking the trees. These girls are dead; there's no chance of saving them now. The case is nearly a year cold.

BUT they still have families who loved them. They still deserve justice.

And these cops are fighting for Lyric and Elizabeth. While their ongoing fight for justice may technically just be for these two girls, in no small way they also send a message to the parents of missing kids everywhere that other people do care about their children, that the good guys do want justice, that people don't just give up because time has passed.

In the end, time may not be on their side, but good guys are the best hope for kids like Lyric and Elizabeth.

Do you think cases like this are worth pursuing a year later?

Talk to the girl's friends--with their guardians present of course! One of their friends (boy or girl,) had to have seen something!!

I think this person who did this should get the electric chair people who kill children or any body should died.I'm sorry if I hurt any ones feeling but it takes a sorry person to do this these girls might have know this person,so maybe this vehicle in question might live in the next town or state,I'm so sorry that these young girls lost their life but its has to be a drive by who watch these girls for a while .go back to thur movements for two to three weeks and maybe they will find out its some one who just move in down the road ,who might just got out of jail.sorry for their lost.

YES!!   They are still trying to dig up Hoffa .. which I feel they should be looking for current killers out on the street.

i live in iowa and heard all about this story pretty much every day they need to look at the one girls dad he was getting ready to go to court about drugs the next week or so and the little girls disappeared im not sure if he was going to testify or what they need to ask him questions he was into drugs that would be the first person to ask it suspicious when his daughter and her cousin disappear a week before his court date for drugs i feel bad for the kids cause they had everything taken from them i think people how have drug problems should not be allowed to have kids the state should take kids that have parents who have drug problems and place them with families who are stable.

Glad they are still searching but I still think it's crazy they called off the search while they were draining the lake.

logically no, they were found dead and u cant change the past. &other missing children cases could possible be solved or benefit from extra help investigating. But it is the human thing to do, especially if the parents request it. & to give those girls justice while in rest. & to not let sick demented people get away with stuff like this. it also could possibly influence the prevention of other sick demented people to corrupt the communities our children are raised in.

whats the point if they do find em all us loving parents families well just srep up to put in jail make sure there safe fed food medical attention to get plenty of rest so when they get out they can do it again not trying to be ahole but blaming judges parole officers mental dpctors lawyers for letting it go own own you know instead of supporting another what about the next one maybe as parents family people americans you we can decide enough is enough are lets keep having vigils looking for someone to other than ourselfs it yours mine our kids this stuff that were allowing to keep happening you we love our children show dont tell em
