Three years ago, U.S. Marine Alex Minsky probably never expected he'd be standing in front of a camera wearing nothing more than a pair of boxer briefs and a smile. He was serving in Afghanistan when a roadside bomb exploded nearby. He lost his leg -- and ended up in a coma for 47 days. His mother, Jackie Minsky, says his brain was "basically disconnected" and his body was covered in burns. But in a miraculous turn of events, his brain slowly "came back online," as his mom puts it.
Minsky earned a Purple Heart, but struggled to recover. Though he eventually walked again, he found himself contending with a drinking problem triggered by depression and wanting to escape. Then, one day, he had a run-in with fate ...
Minsky was at the gym and striving to be sober that day, he says, when a photographer asked him to pose. It was only a matter of time before Minsky found himself on a new, totally unexpected career path -- as an eye-poppingly sexy underwear model.
Now, he says he can't drink, of course, because he's gotta maintain his sexy figure, ha. And it also sounds like this newfound ambition and recognition -- the man has a serious following on Facebook! -- has given Minksky a new lease on life. It really is incredible, not to mention inspiring.
The main factor driving Minsky these days is serving as an inspiration to people who may be struggling just like he did. He told NBC LA, "I just want people to look at me and not give up. To not quit." So awesome. Looking at how he's turned his life around and risen above all the curveballs life has thrown his way, adapted, and stayed optimistic, this brave and tenacious Marine is already everything he's aiming to be.
