Daring Grandma Shoots at Intruder Then KABLAM, He Apologizes (VIDEO)

grandma intruderWhen a man tried to break into Jan Cooper's home in Anaheim, California late Saturday night, she was prepared to defend herself. When she heard a man on her porch trying to open the sliding glass door, the 72-year-old woman pulled out her gun and aimed at the burglar. She told the cops that she saw his silhouette, warned him she was about to shoot, then, kablam, grandma shot at the intruder.

Cooper told the 911 dispatcher:

You'd better get the police here. I don't know whether I hit him or not. I'm not sure. He's standing at my door, my back door. He's in my yard.

Turns out, she didn't hit him -- she narrowly missed. After she fired two shots, the alleged intruder, identified as Brandon Alexander Perez, 31, apologized to Cooper. He said, "I'm sorry ma'am. I'm leaving. Please don't shoot."

Got to give it up to Grandma for really taking charge of the situation and protecting her home and her 85-year-old wheelchair-bound husband from harm, but dang! Shooting at someone is pretty serious stuff. It was a risky move -- what if it had been someone she knew?

Not that that was likely, but here's the thing: this story would've been way different had she actually killed the guy. Cooper's getting a lot of national attention for being the bad-ass that she is, but there is an OCEAN between shooting at someone and killing someone.

And it's not as if she purposefully missed, either -- her shot could've easily been fatal. And if it had been, would the headlines have been as "Rah-rah go Granny!" as they are now?

Maybe. But probably not.

What do you think?

I would be going "rah rah" if she had hit him. If you don't want some granny with a shotgun mowing your ass down, don't break into homes. Seems pretty easy to avoid in my opinion. We have a right to protect what is ours, and since the police aren't there to do it, we should be. I called the cops when someone was trying to get into my home. They police told me that they would "get to it as soon as they had a free car". That was never.

I get what the author is saying. You can't shoot someone just for being on your property. HAD she killed him, there would have been a whole lot of trouble. If he had gained entery into her home, then yes, she would have every right to shoot. But just seeing a figure on your porch does not justify that you are in fear for your life, especially with 911 on the phone.

Are you Fucking kidding me?! So you are only happy when someone scares away a criminal that's breaking in their house without injuring them? But had she hit him, you wouldnt be on her side? You my friend are the problem with this country.

I think she has every right to shoot at him. She is protecting what is hers and what if she DID hit and kill him? well he should have thought about that before he tried to break into her house. HE is the bad guy here and honestly deserves to be punished for his crime. Okay, not shot and killed, but COME ON...YOU CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS. Whose side are you really on??

the FIRST words in this article are "When a man tried to BREAK INTO HER HOUSE", she absolutely is in the right for shooting at him and would've been if she'd hit him, and if she's not, she should be.  No one may enter my home without my consent, and if you try, you BETTER have somthing bulletproof on.  If she'd hit him and/or killed him, he'd deserve it.  Learn to get a job and make your own shit, don't think you get to come trying to take mine!

Rah rah, go Gramma!!! Pffft....if she had hit him, more power to her. I've told my son, don't EVER try to sneak in. I will feel really really bad if I shoot you, but a person can't take any chances now-a-days.....Identify yourself at the FRONT door!!

Krysti Stewart

The story starts out by saying the man tried to BREAK INTO her house....I would absolutely say rah rah Grandma!!! if the guy didn't want to get shot at he shouldnt have tried breaking in...
