Singer 'Sorry & Embarrassed' for Butchering National Anthem on Live TV (VIDEO)

Alexis Normand national anthem

Canadian singer Alexis Normand tweeted that she is 'embarrassed and deeply sorry' for the most cringeworthy rendition of the Star Spangled Banner ever yesterday at a junior hockey game. I guess that's really the only thing you can say after a performance like that. It's brutal to watch. Poor thing. She is Canadian after all. Even many American singers have a hard time getting through it flawlessly, though I will never truly understand why, as the lyrics aren't that hard to memorize.

To make things even worse (if that's possible), when Normand forgot some of the words, she started to make them up ... prompting laughs from the American and Canadian hockey players in the 2013 Memorial Cup.

But then, something pretty amazing happens, the kind of thing that exemplifies what America is all about.

The crowd jumps in ... and helps finish the song for her on a really strong note. Aww, sweet.

Reactions? Was it as bad as you thought it would be?

I couldn't even finish watching that video. That's awful. Though I understand that sh*t happens and we mess up even the simplest things from time to time

I can't lie it makes me angry to watch. How do you hire someone to sing our anthem who doesn't even know the words?

Pretty bad but understandable that nerves sometimes get the best of all of us.

That was a disgusting disgrace.

I give her credit for at least plowing through and trying to finish it even when she knew she'd already ballsed it up. Stage fright can affect people when they thought they were prepared.

The audience was largely Canadian, not American. She may have forgotten the words (I do too, sometimes) but she sang it with heart! I hope she gets the chance to do it again, and blows everyone away. She has a great voice.

Why take offense from a simple mistake? She at least kept going and kept her voice strong. It could have been a lot worse. I thought she sounded good.

That's what they get for having a Canadian sing the American national anthem.

It was really bad, but she tried.  Poor girl.  Good for her for hanging in there.  It seemed to be nerves more than anything.
