There are some people that I just do not understand why they choose to become parents. And it's tragic and horrible that they did. Take Aaron Ramsey. The 35-year-old man from Dallas, Texas has been convicted of killing his 10-year-old son. That's horrific enough, but the way he did it is unbelievably disgusting and awful. He locked his son in a room in their home and slowly starved him to death over a period of months by feeding him nothing but bread and water. Where was everyone who could have helped this child?!
Once the boy had finally starved to death, Ramsey took his emaciated body, put it in a sleeping bag, and dumped it in a rural area of Texas.
This boy lived for months knowing that his own father -- the very person who should have loved him more than anyone -- was slowly killing him.
Ramsey claims that he was limiting the boy to "military rations" because of bad behavior. He claims the boy punched his wife in the stomach, causing her to have a miscarriage. But considering what this asshat is capable of, I wouldn't believe a word he says.
He obviously must have known at some point that his punishment had gone on too long, considering that the child would have been rapidly losing weight, losing the ability to speak or stand, and would have eventually appeared gaunt and on the verge of death. I would think that long before that point, any parent doing a bizarre "starvation diet" as punishment would realize that the child was in serious danger. I think this guy did it because he wanted to. Because he got off on it. Because he was cruel and wanted complete control over this little boy. And, yes, he wanted to kill him.
The boy's mother reportedly lived in New Mexico with the boy's brother, and said she would "go months" without seeing him. You don't talk to your child on the phone? You don't email? You don't find out how his life is going?
Where were the teachers? The neighbors? The friends? Did no one notice that a man was holding a young boy hostage and starving him?!
Worst of all, his stepmother, Elizabeth, who lived in the house, apparently saw all of this and did nothing about it either. She too has been charged. His grandfather originally contacted police, but only after he hadn't seen or heard from his grandson for a YEAR.
The jury took only an hour to convict Ramsey. His punishment is not yet decided. I'm thinking a very long diet of bread and water might be in order.
Every single adult in this poor child's life failed him miserably. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.
