Kate Middleton Isn't Necessarily One of the World's 'Most Influential' Yet

kate middleton TIME is calling the shots on the 100 most influential people in the world again. The site released their annual list of biggest movers and shakers, from artists and leaders to pioneers, titans, and icons, and whodathunk ... Kate Middleton made the cut as an "icon." Well, it's an obvious choice. We're all well aware that the Duchess is admired around the globe for her sense of style, regal demeanor, lovely disposition, and the most basic fact that she's Prince William's wife. But as iconic as she has become in such a short period of time, is she really influential ... yet?

Let's not kid ourselves. At this point, she's only an icon because of the position she's in. Not necessarily because of who she is.

There's a difference between being admired and idolized and actually making an impact. I'm not saying that Kate likely hasn't already done a world of good through her charity work. But it's just like how she was getting flak for not having as many charities on her plate as her grandmother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth. I mean, you've got to be kidding me. She's only been a royal for two years! She just hasn't really even had the chance to create or prove her influence.

That said, her potential for doing so is sky high. Not only does she seem poised to be like her late mother-in-law Princess Diana by being active with the charities she's championing, but I get the impression she and Wills together are a formidable pair who want to make a difference as a team. But let's give 'em some time to get settled into their gigs! Not just as global icons but as international do-gooders. Really, there's no doubt that several years down the road, Kate could be even more than an icon ... She could be a leader.

Would you say Kate Middleton could be considered influential or not quite yet?
