Woman Wins Office Powerball Pool Despite Not Even Playing

lottery ticketJennifer Maldonado is one lucky lady, as she's won the lottery twice. Once, figuratively; once, literally. Maldonado won the latter lottery when a bunch of employees at the Florida real estate firm she's employed at made out with $1 million of Saturday's Powerball jackpot. She won the former lottery because she never threw in money for the tickets, but her co-workers are giving her a piece of the winnings regardless, because they're the coolest people ever.

Oh, and did I mention Maldonado's only worked in the office for two weeks?

When she was asked if she wanted to throw in money to the 120 tickets they were buying, Maldonado declined, not wanting to part with the cash. She said: "I hadn’t gotten a paycheck yet, and I was watching my pennies." But when she showed up for work the following day, everyone was jumping up and down and screaming, and she realized she may have made a mistake. But Jennifer's boss pulled her aside, told her what had happened, and gave her the good news that everyone agreed to kick in a bit of their winnings (they won't say how much) to her. So yeah: Coolest people ever!

Laurie Finkelstein Reader, a coworker of Jennifer's who offered to lend her the $20 to go in on the pool, said: "As a team we put together a fat pile of money. If we do the right thing and always care about other people, the right thing will happen to us."

Indeed. Not sure you can possibly bank better karma than the folks who gave some of their winnings to a woman they barely know. And not sure you can possibly get more lucky than Jennifer. I mean, seriously, what are the odds of winning the lottery when you don't even play?

Have you ever gone in on lotto tickets in an office pool?
